Orange County Superior Court Judge Jeffrey Ferguson has been charged with murder in the shooting death of his wife.

Soon after pulling a handgun from his ankle holster and fatally shooting his wife, prosecutors say, Orange County Superior Court Judge Jeffrey Ferguson alerted his staff that he wouldn’t be taking the bench at the Fullerton courthouse to handle the next day’s calendar.

“I just lost it. I just shot my wife. I won’t be in tomorrow. I will be in custody. I’m so sorry,” the judge texted his clerk and bailiff, according to documents filed late Thursday by the Orange County district attorney’s office.

From the article, he shot her in the chest and the bullet fully penetrated and hit the wall behind her.

You own 47 firearms and you don’t load hollow points in your defensive weapon?

Any other possibilities? Paper thin wife?

“Anaheim police confiscated 47 firearms in a search of the judge’s home, plus more than 26,000 rounds of ammunition”

I don’t understand your question. Do you mean he should’ve shot her just to injure her? When people shoot, they don’t shoot to kill?

I happen to know someone who knows this judge. Said he was a “jovial drunk” and this was completely out of the blue - never saw this coming.

Hollow points would be more likely, not less likely, to kill. But you wouldn’t have to worry about them going through the target, and perhaps a wall, and hitting an innocent bystander.

It’s California. So the usual question in the deep south probably isn’t relevant. But did she need shootin’?

A ‘brick’ of .22 is 555 rounds.

NOT very big—takes up very little space.

I have shot deer with pistols using hollow points. They weighed at least 170 lbs. I never recovered a round.

I think we found the inspiration for Al Bundy’s favorite TV Show:

Who’s that riding in the sun?
Who’s the man with the itchy gun?
Who’s the man who kills for fun?
Psycho Dad, Psycho Dad, Psycho Dad.

He sleeps with a gun
but he loves his son
Killed his wife ‘cos she weighed a ton.
Psycho Dad, Psycho Dad, Psycho Dad.

A little touched or so we’re told
Killed his wife ‘cos she had a cold
Might as well she was gettin’ old
Psycho Dad, Psycho Dad, Psycho Dad.

Have to respect an employee who calls in to let his coworkers know her won't be coming to the office. I wished more public officials had his work ethic.

OTOH, the shooting the wife thing could be seen as problematic.

I just mean you are more likely to kill someone behind the person you are trying to kill.

In America, probably in every country, we hold judges as sacrosanct. This needs to end, they are no different than any other human, but are given extraordinary powers over %99.99 of other humans on this planet.
