A clearer picture is emerging of the 75-year-old Utah man shot dead by the FBI after they tried to serve a search warrant hours before Joe Biden arrived in the state on a re-election campaign swing.
But questions are also being asked as to whether Craig Robertson was a “credible threat”, as the FBI claims, or as neighbors in Provo, Utah, have described to local media as a man harboring anti-government views who walked with a cane and liked to bluster and tell big stories, especially on social media.
Robertson had posted threats against the president, including asking whether Utah would become famous “as the place a sniper took out Biden the Marxist”. He’d also urged Utah residents to fire their guns into the air when Air Force One arrived, the Deseret News reported.
Late last month Robertson posted a message: “Hey FBI, you still monitoring my social media? Checking so I can be sure to have a loaded gun handy in case you drop by again.”
On 6 August, three days before Biden’s visit, according to a 37-page federal complaint, Robertson posted: “I hear Biden is coming to Utah. Digging out my old ghillie suit and cleaning the dust off the M24 sniper rifle.”
The legal complaint alleged interstate threats, threats against the president, and influencing, impeding and retaliating against federal law enforcement officers by threat, Robertson represented a “willful true threat to kill or cause injury to President Biden”.
He had also made threats against a whole host of familiar liberal politicians and officials including California governor Gavin Newsom, US attorney general Merrick Garland, Vice-President Kamala Harris and New York’s progressive district attorney Alvin Bragg.

SAY HIS NAME!”

“In death a member of project mayhem has a name. His name is Robert Paulson. His name is Robert Paulson”
I think so. As soon as I heard about this, I suspected the feds were going to murder this guy. They had priors, like Ruby Ridge and Waco.
Ruby Ridge and Waco all over again.
They always do. Remember Mount Carmel [WACO]?
Absolutely! If you hear your hard drive running late at night, it is the FBI putting child porn on your computer.
Where is the BODY-CAM VIDEO? Release it, FBI
Comrade, beware that expressing doubts about the veracity of official state organs is dangerously close to sedition.
Wonder how many missing person reports have been made in the last 3 years?.
Wow,
I bet you can read a book in the total dark

Cuz you glow brightly.

That is because they did.
Agree.
He was.
I don't see a threatening statement there. No threat to use it, just cleaning the gun up. Sure inference up the wazoo, but no direct threat made. If bragging and bluster is to be made illegal then the internet needs to be cleaned of a lot of folks.I suppose next threats will be seen if folks post 'I wish they were dead', or 'some need to be taken out' can now be an offense that calls for the death penalty.
Did he have a gun?
What this is incident tells everybody very clearly is: "Oh yes you can just be shot for saying stuff".
It is not even the first time for this message. It is only the most recent time. "Repetition is the mother of learning" as a trainer of mine used to say.
The script is always a zero-dark-thirty raid with a dynamic entry and a call of "gun" and "shots fired". The outcome is as predictable as the sunrise.
Yes, it could.
My assessment is: "Yes, it was". Making written assassination threats to any public official is suicidal behavior.
The “optics” certainly don’t look so good...
Of course not. With limited staff and budgets, one must pick low-risk targets that can be easily vilified to gain public support for the enforcement action. There are always plenty of crazies in a local area of any desired political alignment for the show. Just pick one who is the most intense with the least capability for action.
Robertson was an ideal target.
The secret police forces of totalitarian governments always start with the easy targets. The floridly insane persons who "threatened law enforcement" and "deserved what they got". The police branch out from there, if the authorities direct them to do so. Totalitarian governments get very twitchy about any opposition or criticism.
And that is the critical problem with this incident. Once the public accepts the message, who will they go after next?
Every poster on this forum (and hundreds of other forums) is potentially at risk, as the government tolerance for criticism gets lowered. Even posters at the "Democrat Underground" and other left-wing sites are potentially at risk.
Leftists are way too lacking in caution about threatening public officials, because they have been allowed to do so, or even sponsored by authorities to do so. But as factional disputes get resolved, yesterdays' villain becomes todays' favored leader, and the posters who threatened him yesterday get put on today's list for the next raids.
It is really hard to keep up with the current thing. And the agencies have quotas they need to meet. They are going to pick somebody to visit. Ask your Russian immigrant neighbors how this works.
