As individuals there is little or nothing we can do about inflation. However, we can structure our investments, cash, debt, expenses and our earnings to minimize the effect and possibly benefit from it.

Personally, I did not believe the “transitory inflation” line when covid hit. I knew they had to lie about it because part of inflation is driven by expectations. Even now I don’t believe either the stats or the projections because of that.

I have and continue to find ways to profit from inflation and so far it has been very good for my personal financial situation.

My advice to those reading this thread. Stop complaining and learn about inflation and make personal choices that can both limit the damage and possibly profit from it

I guess the point is….. when you rapidly raise rates it shouldn’t. But Biden screwed that up by not stopping spending while the rates climb. This admin is so frightened of the necessary recession thats inevitable theyve screwed the pooch.

“Inflation is a huge drag on the economy.”

But a huge benefit to politicians. So I guess we’re all just going to have to suck it up and take it.

The interest rate - what people pay to rent money from a bank - should be considered in determining inflation.

There’s been no inflation since last July? Ppffffffffft. So why has the cost of almost everything I buy been going up?

I have done accounting for 66 years.

ALL MY EXPERIENCE doing such doesn’t match with these statements.

I am spending more at grocery store & gas pumps & EVERYTHING is going up.

EXACTLY WHAT ITEMS is Biden including in his numbers???

NOT the everyday purchases we all are doing on a regular basis.

Price of a NEW car is going down????

WHOOOP DEE DOO.

Most of us don’t make such a purchase often.

Plain white sandwich bread at Wal-Mart was 84 Cents a loaf-—now $1.38

64% increase

Bet we buy more white bread than new cars-—

50 # of dog food for $19.98 ==39.96 cents per pound

46 # of dog food for $27.48 == 59.739 cents a pound

That is a 49.496 % INCREASE

The people making these inflation statements have NOT done their own shopping in decades.

I'm seeing similar increases in all facets of buying goods and services. It makes the government claim of 3-5% per year seem somewhat silly, doesn't it?

The impact of inflation varies by person. It seems those in DC aren’t affected as much as others. They don’t even measure the things that matter to folks in flyover country. More accurately, they throw things into the inflation figures that don’t matter. Simply because those things don’t matter to the masses, they are not highly inflated. That water downs the figures of things that people cannot do without.

I dont remember when, but it was many years ago that those volatile sectors were pulled out. If you force me to guess I’d say it was under Bush II. So it’s been government policy for a very long time that these stats should actually not be informative

Yes, another knowledgeable Freeper filled me on on that.

Probably a highly political reason it was done, and both Leftists and RINO conservatives were on board fully.

ie...deceiving the public.

That is not The Hill’s doing, it is your government. They do also maintain an index with food and energy included, but they don’t like to report that because it is way uglier. I’m sure they justify that on the basis that very, very few people use food and energy regularly and even then it is only a tiny fraction of their budget ...

WINNER !

year over year. Last year doesn’t count. Never mind if it was up 9%. This year it’s only up 4% so it’s a reduction (4% on top of 9% is a reduction)

++++++++++++

Same thing when reporting unemployment numbers. U-3 versus U-6. U-3 number is reported because it is lower (unemployed people actively looking for work). U-6 is comprised of people unemployed that fall into both categories (looking and not looking for work) which is a larger segment / larger number.

What "dropped" was the estimate of inflation. Inflation as a phenomenon did not "drop." Inflation continues.

Our Betters hope nobody notices. But we do because we are living it!

Meanwhile, the lying and gaslighting continue while we pay more and more for less and less.
