We are in the midst of one of the most radical revolutions in American history. It is as far-reaching and dangerous as the turbulent years of the 1850s and 1860s or the 1930s. Every aspect of American life and culture is under assault, including the very processes by which we govern ourselves, and the manner in which we live.
The Revolution began under the Obama administration that sought to divide Americans into oppressed and oppressors, and then substitute race for class victimization. It was empowered by the bicoastal wealth accrued from globalization, and honed during the COVID lockdown, quarantine-fed economic downturn, and the George Floyd riots and their aftermath. The Revolution was boosted by fanatic opposition to the presidency of Donald Trump. And the result is an America that is unrecognizable from what it was a mere decade ago.
Here are 10 upheavals that the Left has successfully wrought.
Free expression. In large swatches of American society—particularly the corporation, the media, the government, the public schools, and the university—it is suddenly dangerous to speak freely. At a DEI workshop, politely object that “whiteness” does not account for all the challenges of “marginalized peoples,” and you will become either ostracized, reprimanded, or perhaps fired.
Suggest to a class that man-made climate change and the state remedies for it, are still under debate—and your career and livelihood are endangered. In 2020, state that Covid lockdowns would do more eventual damage than the virus—and your career was through. Express doubt that there are more than two biological sexes, and if an athlete or high school principal you will be shunned or rendered professionally inert.
The government, in league with social media, censors the news. “Liberal” universities often first require McCarthy-era type “diversity” statements for one to be hired.

It is as if they are copying what Mao did in the Chinese Cultural Revolution.
VDH ping
Their end is not far away!
Obama’s “fundamentally changing” America...
(Every aspect of American life and culture is under assault, including the very processes by which we govern ourselves, and the manner in which we live.)
It truly ramped up during the reign of Manchurian Candidate Barack Hussein Obama.
America has been ..... fundamentally-transformed.
26 seconds apart
Closer except I went back to add the hyphen
They are. I love VDH, but this did not start with Obama. He's merely the result of decades of Soviet psy-ops and Chinese influence, the pay-off of Gramsci's Long March through the Institutions.
Right... the Liberals are attempting an incremental and irreversible deconstruction of the US in all its elements
I think the canary died
You got it right: “transform”. I should’ve looked it up, but I’m still on my first cup of coffee. =:-)
As usual VDH is late to the party. He is also missing that a sudden radical change is not just happening in America, but in much of the Western world. Canada, France, the Netherlands to name a few are all being remade. The underlying excuse is “climate change” but a common factor is that all of these govts work closely with the World Economic Forum.
“but this did not start with Obama”
Exactly right. We have very short memories if we think so. The Obama times probably were situated at the top of the roller coaster.
Just watch when they usher in digital “programmable” currency.
Anyone who questions the State will be outcast. See Nigel Farage.
it’s called “death of a thousand cuts” and it’s why i’ve always hated progressives
it started long before 0bama
I would contend that the combination of the Industrial Revolution and urbanization marked the end of what we might consider “American culture.”
McCarthy was an American Hero and should have been treated as such in his life, and venerated in death.
I don't have an issue with his statement "...universities often first require McCarthy-era type “diversity” statements for one to be hired..." because those did take place during the "McCarthy-era", but...McCarthy was NOT the one who put those loyalty guidelines in place. It was the Truman administration that formed and adopted those measures, not Joseph McCarthy, even though using that verbiage implies that it was McCarthy, not the Truman Administration that put them in place.
But I did take issue with his passage: "...The methodologies of Joseph McCarthy and J. Edgar Hoover are the preferred models, once they were rebooted to the right cause..."
I dislike taking issue with Professor Hanson on this, but I feel, not only was there nothing wrong with the approach taken by Joseph McCarthy on the issue of communists holding positions which gave them access to sensitive information both in and out of government, both McCarthy and J. Edgar Hoover were absolutely on the right side and the right track regarding communists in government in protecting the national security of the United States and interests of American citizens, while the Left (and the "Deep State" of that era that did exist) were shamefully on the side of protecting the interests of the Democrat Party and businesses they got money from.
And that last damning statement fully includes Harry Truman, his entire administration with almost no exceptions, and nearly every Democrat in Congress, including the likes of the "venerable and hawkish" "Scoop" Jackson.
But that aside, VDH nails it again with this article. Kudos to him.
Yep. But if you take out the hub, America, and kick out the spokes the rest follows.
Here is a noteworthy quote from his article....
Notice the pattern? The events he mentioned are all about 80 years apart, plus or minus 15 years (a saeculum - or normal human life). VDH could have stepped back from 1861 another 80 or so years to 1776 and also mentioned the Revolutionary War. And it goes back even further in anglo socity."It is as far-reaching and dangerous as the turbulent years of the 1850s and 1860s or the 1930s. Every aspect of American life and culture is under assault...."
That's the pattern of an incredible book written in 1997 called The Fourth Turning. I first read the book in 97, and the projections the authors made for the next 20 or so years reads like a crystal ball in looking back at the last two decads.

As most of you here know, our once-great country is spiraling out of control. Sadly, it will get worse before it gets better. Hopefully, this disaster will end by the early 2030 decade.
Stepping back for the broad view puts it all in perspective.
Buckle up!
