Throughout the United States, it takes three times as many hours of training to become a nail technician, a barber, or a plumber as it does to become a police officer.
Finland, Australia, Denmark, and Germany – countries with far less crime and a fraction of American gun violence – spend dramatically more to prepare officers before sending them off into the streets. Finland, for instance, provides police cadets with 5,500 hours of training, nearly 14 times the minimum 408 training hours required by the state police board in Georgia.
Highly trained law enforcement officers, studies consistently show, are better at handling mental health emergencies and defusing violent confrontations, are less likely to engage in racial bias, and are more equipped to build community bonds necessary for good police work.
Poorly trained officers, in contrast, are more likely to use force and rely on their firearms, a tendency that has led to lost lives and scandals. Georgia’s police officers are among the least trained in the country.
The evidence suggests a focus on police training can also mend deep wounds from years of officer misconduct. Newark, N.J., under a court order because of rampant police abuses, has decided to adopt yearly seminars for police officers, including training that emphasizes mental health programs for traumatized police officers. Although the reforms cost over $7.5 million, they began paying dividends almost immediately. In 2020, Newark had zero police shootings. Crime rates that year went down.

The one odd fact from this Atlanta episode....this property (100 acres) was originally some long-term prison (I think dating back to the 1920). Nothing was being done with the property...as far as the city council was concerned.
When they were approached about a training facility...literally no one from the council had a problem. Locally, with police coming in and spending money on hotels/restaurants...they all saw this as a ‘win-win’.
I think today...if you were trying sell folks on bringing the Braves back into the city itself (where the old park was)...it’d be fought tooth-and-nail to prevent. Just odd how the city has developed into a urbanized ‘nutcase’.
Earlier this year black clad Antifa pukes attacked the construction site as an organized group in reinforced company strength, about 150 of them. There is good video of the event. A couple cops were injured and around 6 figures worth of heavy construction equipment was torched. Less than 10 people were arrested, 6 or 8 IIRC.
I challenged the AG to go find some of the people funding this nonsense. They did get a few. Here is that story, from late May:
BREAKING: Three arrested following Atlanta raid of nonprofit accused of illegally financing Antifa terrorist suspects

Thanks. Good thing it fell under the “A-okay” policy of mostly peaceful gatherings. But, remember, there are NOT two systems of justice in this country. No, really.
Over 2.5 years of training before they're allowed in the street to do police work? I don't believe that.
There’s crime in Finland?
Oh yeah, there’s tons of crime in Finland. All them whyte peeples tearin’ up everythang and sheeeiittt.
Whatever happened to those rogue cops in Memphis who beat that man to death a while back?
Crickets. Weird huh?
I cannot, for the life of me, understand why police officers are not trained that they can’t just saunter up to you and demand ID, and detain/arrest you if you refuse.
Your average cop has zero idea what the law is s/he is supposed to be enforcing. (Actually, they are NOT tasked with enforcing the law, but with “keeping the peace”, apprehending supspects, and gathering evidence.....) I simply do not understand the absolutely abject stupidity which - in the name of “backing the blue” - howls like your are antifa or something if you demand these guys respect our constitutional rights.
There is zero reason that we do not DEMAND that mandatory 4th 5th and 6th amendment rights training be compulsory, and repeated training for all officers. It is just idiotic to expose the city/county to potential lawsuits and fines/penalties, besides risking alienation from their biggest fans.... who are law abiding people who really WANT to view them as the “good guys.”
We are moving to a society where the permanent criminal element is entitled, arrogant, combative, mouthy and resistant. YOU ARE GOING TO FACE THESE ISSUES. Why not get training on it? It is just idiotic.
If I were one of these officials, I would be bringing in some activist attorney who has a record of suing cops and PAYING THEM to teach what will land them and the dept in court.
It is just the dumbest thing I have ever seen. The level of abject ignorance of the law on the part of the people sworn to uphold it is jaw dropping.
Do you doubt me here? Grab a look at this.https://youtu.be/ObH28ekBeaE This is the NORM, not the exception, around the country.
