Russia said on Saturday it would punish Ukraine for using a sea drone to attack a civilian tanker near the Kerch Strait in what it said was a "terrorist act" that threatened the lives of the crew and risked "a large-scale environmental disaster."

Both sides said on Saturday that a Ukrainian sea drone full of explosives had struck a Russian fuel tanker overnight near a bridge linking Russia to annexed Crimea, the second such attack in 24 hours.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Moscow would retaliate.

And if the enemy sees it the same way you do, that fulfilling his need to attain actionable intelligence justifies whatever means necessary if deemed important enough, what does that mean to our soldiers, our spies, our citizens?

You set the rules - No rules.
You lose = you die or are subjugated.

—”Anecdotal, you say? To you it is. Not to me.”

My father was career Navy and most of his friends were mil-spec.

One was former US Army Air Corps, his plane was shot down over Germany, and his leg was severely damaged.

The only medical treatment he received was what his fellow POWs could make happen; never received any Red Cross Medical packs...

After a year in US hospitals after the war his one leg is three inches shorter than the other and he can almost walk.

He had NOTHING good to say about Germans.

“Nicely, and well timed, play.”

You can see the EFFECTIVENESS of the media, when people who claim to not trust the media* parrot the media talking points like they’re on the Soros Payroll or something. You ask them to provide a factual basis for their incredible ability to read Putin’s mind and they immediately try to deflect the conversation.

*not sure of this guy, but most here would make that claim

🇺🇦 A Ukrainian woman who has been under the Russian occupation for a few months tells that the Russian military shared food and dry rations, helped people, brought water to old ones, explained to the elderly how to hide from shelling. Her neighbor went and asked them to turn on the light for them, and the “invaders” helped to fix it.

“When they came to me, my jaw dropped: “May we please come in?” Just imagine! The invaders arrive and ask “May we please come in?” Cultural, well-brought up people. My neighbors never said “please” to me for all 5 years, they always come without asking. Russians shared their food with us! They are more humane than Ukrainians. So shut your mouths about Russians. You are eradicating Russian. You are idiots! You are morons, you are cruel, and they are more humane than you! We need peace in the whole world, and you only think about yourself. This is the difference between Ukrainians and Russians.”

The Russians look at Ukrainians as fellow Slavs, hence the low-key war. I’m not sure that they’ll look at the Poles or other Europeans the same way should they join in, and neither should they.

Yes, a blockade is legal during a state of war, although it has to be ‘effective’.

Slightly incorrect. When you start going after neutral shipping, you are declaring war on that neutral nation. In fact, WWI Germany started attacking neutral shipping with it’s submarines in RESPONSE to the British act of war against Neutral shipping going to Germany.

Yes, he did just fine.

Another of my father’s buddies had been a POW in Japan, a good guy that taught me the knot used on him.

There was something about him that was a bit off and I never ask much about his time as a POW.

Read about what Russia has been doing in the Ukraine and to the Ukrainians since they first attacked them.

I'll wait.

“Read about what Russia has been doing in the Ukraine and to the Ukrainians since they first attacked them.”

You mean like rebuilding Mariupol after the Neocons likely told the Ukrainians to fight to the last man there.

Thanks for reminding us.

War is hell, Vlad. Even if you call it a “special military operation,” or a “policing operation” (Korea).

When you start going after neutral shipping, you are declaring war on that neutral nation.

Alright, I’m not an expert on the ‘rules of war’, but as I understand it, a nation at war can declare a blockade against an enemy’s ports. Ships flying the enemy’s flag are subject to seizure. Ships flying neutral flags are subject to being stopped and searched. This does not constitute an act of war against the neutral nation.

Germany got in trouble because the rules of war governing blockades said that if a neutral ship is carrying contraband it is subject to seizure or destruction, after the crew is safely disembarked and taken to safety. German surface raiders followed this centuries-old custom of the sea, but U-boats obviously could not.

When U-boats began sinking shipping without warning or allowing the crew to save themselves was seen as a ‘war crime’ by the Allies. Ironically, the US used this same strategy to sink Japanese merchant shipping during WWII, one reason why Adm. Dönitz was allowed to escape punishment for ‘unrestricted submarine warfare’.

The fact is that the UK had a surface navy that could effectively blockade German ports while Germany lacked both the surface navy and geography to do the same to Britain.

Germany was being squeezed to death by the British blockade and figured they had to do something to hit back. They decided to use U-boats which almost worked (in both wars), but their breaking of the Sussex Pledge brought the U.S. into the war which led to Germany’s losing the war.

But back to my original post. Was Germany justified in executing Captain Charles Fryatt as a franc-tireur for trying to ram a submarine trying to sink his ship?
