The Russians look at Ukrainians as fellow Slavs, hence the low-key war. I’m not sure that they’ll look at the Poles or other Europeans the same way should they join in, and neither should they.

The main difference between Russian and Ukrainian troops is their attitude toward civilians. Ukrainian soldiers set up firing points in residential areas, using civilians as shields, while the Russians risk their lives as they carry people out of bombarded areas in their arms. This is what the rescued residents say. They also wish the Russian fighters a happy Defender of the Fatherland Day and wish them to return home alive.
