Talks begin in Saudi Arabia on how to end Russia-Ukraine war

Kyiv seeks support of publicly neutral countries as China sends envoy and Moscow says it will ‘keep an eye’ on meeting.

Talks have started in Saudi Arabia to find a peaceful settlement to Russia’s war in Ukraine.

Ukraine and its allies hope this weekend’s meeting of national security advisers and other senior officials from about 40 countries – but not Russia – will reach agreement on principles of how to end the conflict.

Andriy Yermak, the head of the Ukrainian president’s office and his main envoy for the talks in Jeddah, said late on Friday in a television interview published on his Telegram account: “I expect that the conversation will be difficult, but behind us is truth, behind us – goodness.”

The forum excludes Russia, but the Kremlin said it would “keep an eye” on the meeting. China said it would send its special envoy for Eurasian affairs, Li Hui, to the talks.

Li said: “We have many disagreements and we have heard different positions, but it is important that our principles are shared.”

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said earlier this week that Russia would “need to understand what goals are set and what will be discussed”.

“Any attempt to promote a peaceful settlement deserves a positive evaluation,” he said.

Seems a tad silly to exclude Russia

So is Biden’s but that didn’t stop him from having “peace talks” with only half the countries involved in the war

Excluding Russia probably means that force will be exerted against Ukraine. Russia is too scary to threaten.

Neither side can stop until they are unable to continue. Then the political leader of the perceived loser is finished as he will absorb all the anger. The newly appointed leader of Germany, who was appointed specifically to take the blame for surrender was assassinated.

Like excluding Hitler at Yalta, what is being discussed is how Russia is butchered and split apart. The Saudis would like to see their rivals set back 50 years on oil production and lock in the EU as a customer. China and Russia are failing powers, looking forward might be premature, but not diplomatically unwarranted. It does put some motivation for russia to call for negotiated ending that will not come from the EU/NATO powers.

The Ukrainians would go for 2014 boarders with NATO membership and UN in Crimea if pushed by the EU/NATO powers. EU is salivating at the profits of rebuilding the brutalism rows of buildings of Ukraine. The EU/NATO powers see this as the opportunity to clear russia of soviet surplus at price lower than a middle east war. It cannot be understated a ton of the technical workforce of the world comes from ukraine...they are the engineering center of the low end of the world wide contracting force.

Yet another unintended consequence you Ukraine cheerleaders are creating. The loss of dominance by America, and like our president, are too ignorant to know that you are participating in the destruction of this nation.

Actually, I think Biden is well aware of what he is doing.

Too bad you cheerleaders are so clueless.

Or perhaps I am clueless as to what you cheerleaders really do want to do to my country.

Either way you are assisting in the destruction of this nation. I hope you are so proud.

Not only that, you have assisted in the destruction of Ukraine, and the deaths of many Ukrainian male youth., which means generations of destruction to the Slavic peoples.

I’m holding a summit on how to get to get Kate Upton to sleep with me. But of course, I can’t include Kate in the summit.

Comical… State department thinks the global south will join up and pressure Russia suddenly and then all turn on China, and China is a party to the conference.

They might not like Russia but i doubt they trust America enough to go along with any of their peace plans since they must know they are up next on the chopping block after we dispose Putin and install a puppet regime

Thanks, I've bookmarked your comment. It's definitely in the running for dumbest post of the year.

Russia doesn’t have any real countries as allies. And you can’t say that Iran, North Korea, Syria and Belarus are real countries because they’re crapholes and dictatorships. Heck, even Africa won’t let Putin visit.

Funny that you can't see that the U,S. (Bide) & U.K. (Johnson) goaded him into invading, because he wanted to stop the hostilities in eastern Ukraine against Russian speaking Ukrainians.

Also, that you have such an ignorant knowledge of the history of that region as well.
