US and Western officials fear Putin unlikely to change course in Ukraine before 2024 election

Top US and European officials are concerned that Russian President Vladimir Putin is factoring the 2024 US presidential election into his Ukraine war planning in hopes that a loss by President Joe Biden next year will lead the US to curtail its support for Ukraine and improve Russia’s negotiating position, four US officials told CNN.

The US does not yet have explicit intelligence about Putin’s mindset, or whether he is purposefully dragging out the war in hopes of a Donald Trump or Republican presidential victory. But next year’s election remains a key factor that top Western national security, intelligence and diplomatic officials believe will influence Putin’s decisions in Ukraine, making it even less likely the war is resolved before the end of next year. A CNN poll conducted by SSRS that was released on Friday found most Americans oppose Congress providing additional funding to support Ukraine, as the public splits over whether the US has or has not already done enough in the conflict.

One US official said they have “no doubt” that Putin is “trying to hold out” until the 2024 election. Another source familiar with the intelligence said “it’s sort of the elephant in the room” for the US, Ukraine and Europe.

“Putin knows Trump will help him. And so do the Ukrainians and our European partners,” the source said. “So even though we haven’t seen anything explicitly to that effect, you have to assume, I believe, that everyone is thinking it.”

As western support begins to fray, who will bail first...the US or a few of the NATO "allies"?

I believe we'll know BEFORE the US election. Hell, Ukraine might see the writing on the wall and decide to cut the best deal they can before that too.

Another disgusting smear.

Neither Ukraine nor Russia will be allowed to end this WWIII. The only chance it ends is with President Trump.

That is, if the globalists don’t seriously escalate things to ensure they have their interests fulfilled and we already have Graham and others threatening to do just that.

Nothing wrong with trying to help eachother out. Putin for his part wants the Donbass and peace (which the Minsk agreements pretty much guaranteed and nothing more, but the Ukes and the warmonger left put the kibosh on it). Trump for his part wants no more democrat wars. This will make him go down in history as one of our greatest peacemakers. I believe the dems will literally light the fuse to stop this. Katie bar the door, we’re in for a turbulent time.

Reasonable scenario but Zelenskyy is owned lock, stock, and barrel by the corrupt Biden family and his deep state handlers. No getting out of the Faustian bargain you willingly submitted to.

Experts are predicting Russia continues to occupy Ukraine a 15 months from now? Impossible. Russians are constantly retreating. Put in is constantly humiliated.

I doubt Ukraine can survive that long. Unless NATO gets involved. Which may happen.

That’s one of the risks. The more Trump looks like winning in 2024, the more Biden (or whoever) has the incentive to escalate to WW3 and then demand support as the “War President” where Trump is the “traitor”.

ransomnote: back in March, members of the Austrian parliament got up and walked out in protest when 'this dancing dictator' began to speak. Wish the US hadn't stayed in and spent billions more....and more, and  more, and more...

The only side dragging the war out is the Biden regime.

Ukraine's counteroffensive has resulted in 43,000 deaths without Ukraine even being able to reach the first line of Russian defense. There is absolute no chance of Ukraine taking any territory back.

This is blatant election interference by the Russians. This proves that they meddle in US elections. We must do more to help Ukraine fight against them.

Most Americans oppose more welfare to Ukraine:

An outspoken "no more aid" candidate would be refreshing in next year's presidential election.

Off topic but interesting story in this month’s Warships how Russian warships and Wagner merks are showing up in Libya, as well as being in Syria and Russians are looking to grab a Sudanese Red Sea port while the Suds are killing each other and Russian merks are in Mali.

It apparently has already been proven that Prigozhin was involved in influencing the 2016 and 2020 US elections.
