Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) posted stronger numbers in a poll of likely Iowa caucus goers than nationally, while former President Donald Trump's support in the Hawkeye State dipped below 50% amid public tensions between himself and Gov. Kim Reynolds (R-IA), who enjoys great popularity among the state's Republicans.
In a newly released New York Times/Siena College poll of Iowa Republicans who are likely to attend caucuses, 20% reported planning to vote for DeSantis. Trump still maintained his status as the front-runner, with 44% saying they would vote for him.
While the former president is still ahead in the Hawkeye State, his numbers in Iowa were weaker than those reported by Republicans nationally. The New York Times/Siena College poll results released earlier this week showed Trump with 54% from Republicans across the country and DeSantis with 17%.
Trump faces a 10-point difference between his support nationally and that among Iowa likely caucus goers. This difference further marks his loss of the support of the majority of Republicans in Iowa, only holding a plurality over opponents.
This comes after the former president publicized a reported feud between himself and Reynolds last month. In a post to Truth Social, he criticized the governor's commitment to staying neutral in the state's caucus campaign season. On several occasions, he further took credit for her election to the governorship. Following his public attack, he lost an endorsement from state Sen. Jeff Reichman, who chose to back DeSantis instead.
GOP strategists predicted that the choice to go against Reynolds could be detrimental to Trump if the news made its way to voters...

You are delusional. Seek help.
Stopped reading there.
He loves to run his mouth. Bashing McCain two years after he was dead was the worst thing he ever did in Arizona. A state that voted for him for 30 years. Dumb!
No one wants a Meatball. Repeat, no one.
Let me guess. You believe every poll that is good for Trump, and you summarily dismiss every poll that is bad for Trump. It’s a cult.
44 to 20, that’s still a very healthy lead. Trump has more than double the support DeSantis has. Nothing for you to crow about, your guy is still far far behind. I suspect your pinning most of your hopes on Jack Smith.
Headline “Closes the Gap” is hilarious....DeSadness at 20, Trump at 44 is not a closure of any gap....
McStain was a jealous traitor. For years the RINOs lied to us saying as soon as they had the power in Congress, Obozocare would be eliminated.
And Trump won AZ in 2020 just like Kari Lake won in 2022. The sole reason for the SCAM-demic was to bring in cheat-by-mail-in ballots with no signature verification. In both cases the count was slow-walked for a week in order to find enough mail-ins to put the Democrat ahead.
I lived in Arizona for 30 years and I was quite happy when McCain died and so were most Republican voters. McCain was a leftist @ss working for the Democrats. The puke saved communist Obamacare which gutted whatever free enterprise existed in the insurance industry and cost American families hundreds of billions every year.
++He loves to run his mouth++
Trump is honest and not shy on telling it like it is..
I’d say all of those wanting to win are talking out of both sides.
Last few days. Pence ran his mouth.. so did some others.
It’s Trump, or we sink...

SINCE WHEN IS OVER A 2-1 LEAD CLOSE BY ANY STRETCH OF THE IMAGINATION?
My only problem with DJT is I cannot foresee any circumstance where he gets elected considering all the election poll problems. His narcissistic personality gives too many people the creeps even if his policies are top notch.
I think DeSantis is the one that really scares the crap out of left. I’ve seen the way they react to him. Not a lot of bark but a huge bite.
he does have a point....many have tired of DJT behaving like an 8-year old with the school yard name-calling. those that believe DJT will beat RD by a 2-1 margin are delusional
It’s has nothing to do with Kim Reynolds and everything to do with the hard push DeSantis has made against Trump from the right as well as his personal attacks in Iowa. DeSantis is depending on evangelicals to give him Iowa or, at least, a very strong showing. I am sure the indictments don’t help if Iowans are more traditional media influenced. Trump also didn’t appear at the event Tucker hosted in Iowa.

Trump is in absolutely no danger of losing the nomination.
Ooo... its 44 to 20. vs 54 to 17 in IOWA.. better watch out, Desantis is a rocket I tell ya (eye roll).
Lets see, Trump is 10 below 1 national poll in Iowa, and Desantis is up 3 from the same national poll. At that rate, Trump can drop another 10, and be down to 34 and Desantis will rocket up to 23 and still beat Desantis by getting nearly 50% more support than Desantis.
Trump is the nominee folks, don’t have to like it, but there is no math anywhere where Trump is not the republican nominee.
Bash the results, and yes Trump still has large lead, but that can be fleeting. As Iowa shows, saying stupid things has consequences. Overall, this is a marathon and looking ahead to the current Biden matchup, look at RealClearPolitics for ongoing results, Trump and DeSantis do equally well, within the margin of error, against Biden. Will be interesting the see the first Trump or DeSantis vs Newsom matchup.
