“The final cost”
Funny, off topic, repair story for you-
Decades ago my Dad had a Saturn. One day the battery light came on and figured it was the alternator.
He often did work on cars himself but it was under warranty still so took it to the dealer.
They quickly confirmed it was the alternator so he left figuring he’d pick it up the next day (my Mom followed him up there).
Well, days go by and he hears nothing but wasn’t worried because we had several vehicles. He gets it after a week.
Turns out, the mechanic screwed up big time - Saturn had aluminum blocks (I don’t know if both top and bottom) and the brackets were molded as part of the block.
Well, you guessed it, the mechanic over-tightened the bolt and broke the bracket. Big oops!
The funny part was the service invoice (no charge due to warranty) that said:
Problem - Battery light comes on.
Solution - Replace engine.
Even a halfway creative person could make a bracket of steel and find 3 holes in the block to mount it.
Cost - maybe $100 total.
