Donald Trump seems to get indicted on a weekly basis. Yet he is utterly dominating his Republican rivals in the polls, and he is tied with Joe Biden in the general election surveys. Trump’s poll numbers are stronger against Biden now than at any time in 2020.
What’s going on here? Why is this guy still politically viable, after all he’s done?
We anti-Trumpers often tell a story to explain that. It was encapsulated in a quote the University of North Carolina political scientist Marc Hetherington gave to my colleague Thomas B. Edsall recently: “Republicans see a world changing around them uncomfortably fast, and they want it to slow down, maybe even take a step backward. But if you are a person of color, a woman who values gender equality or an L.G.B.T. person, would you want to go back to 1963? I doubt it.”
In this story we anti-Trumpers are the good guys, the forces of progress and enlightenment. The Trumpers are reactionary bigots and authoritarians. Many Republicans support Trump no matter what, according to this story, because at the end of the day he’s still the bigot in chief, the embodiment of their resentments, and that’s what matters to them most.
I partly agree with this story; but it’s also a monument to elite self-satisfaction.
So let me try another story on you. I ask you to try on a vantage point in which we anti-Trumpers are not the eternal good guys. In fact, we’re the bad guys.

if you are a person of color - The left has been using race to sow division in order for the left to gain more power. A "person of color" with any brain would grasp that the left is using them as pawns in their quest for power.
who values gender equality - The left pushes their lies about gender equality as part of their agenda for more laws that give them power. What rights does a man have that a woman doesn't?
A male “person of color” in 1963 often had a good-paying union job in Chicago, Detroit or Cleveland and could afford to buy a nice house.
When I arrived in Baltimore in 1975, Howard Street was thronged with mainly black women doing their shopping.
We have a sitting POTUS with very clear evidence of taking bribes, of corruption being business as usual. We have a former POTUS, a political rivalry threatened with impeachment the same day he took office, and nonstop corrupt actions taken against him ever since.
The NY Times doesn’t see or feel the seething anger at the Leftists.. I wouldn’t be surprised if some vote for President Trump just to send a loud and clear FU to everything the Left is doing.

I'm old enough to remember 1963 as a time when a young boy could ride his bike all though a section of a city where I as a grown man would now be uncomfortable walking unarmed.
A time when the black murder rate was much smaller than now, when we didn't have near as many drug deaths, when a woman could feel safer.

Anyone who doesn’t know what Biden is like & what he’s done towards ruining this country must be in a deep sleep. Admittedly Mr. Trump may not be ideal in every possible way, but I believe he ran this country rightly & to much greater satisfaction than Biden even dreamed of. Mr. Biden has been mostly little more than a large boil on the backside of humanity & should never have been elected. As was already said, Mr. Trump is not suitable to any in the D.C. swamp & that is a large voting bloc but certainly doesn’t include much of the nation. If Democrats have to cheat in order to win an election that indicates how they plan to run the country & we’ve already seen how that is working out. We as a nation seem to need only those who are actually opposed to the way the nation is being run now..to have made the right choice. Mr. Trump is one of those.

Anyone with half a brain would ask - “just EXACTLY HAS he done??” criminally, that is..
We daily watch the rest of DC committing crimes; corruption, lying to the public, etc…
But with all these ‘crimes’ they’ve tried to pin onto Trump, NOTHING is ever spelled out plainly.

There will be NO payback here. The steal is in place and Mitch McConnell, Chief Justice Roberts and Pierre Delecto will run interference from the right to make sure the steal stays in place.
This comment reminds me of a time when I had just gotten out of the service & went to visit a relative in a Chicago suburb. Drove for many miles through black neighborhoods & was never threatened in any way. This was in 1960. I am white.
