BIG: Ron DeSantis Accepts Invitation to Debate Gavin Newsom

While it doesn’t look like Donald Trump will show up at the first GOP primary debate, Ron DeSantis is now set to face a different debate challenge. The Florida governor, while appearing on Sean Hannity’s Fox News show, officially accepted an invitation to debate Gavin Newsom.

When asked by Hannity what his answer was to Newsom’s offer, DeSantis responded: “Absolutely, I’m game.”

“Let’s get it done. Just tell me when and where we’ll do it,” DeSantis said as the audience cheered. “In one respect, the debate between California and Florida has already been had, as you suggest, people have been voting on that, they’ve been voting on it with their feet, they have fled California in record numbers.”

“Florida has been the number one state for net in-migration,” DeSantis continued. “We have the number one ranked economy, number one now in education, crime rate at a 50-year-low. But in another sense, this is the debate for the future of our country because you have people like Joe Biden, they would love to see the Californication of the United States.”

It’s going to be real interesting to see if Trump can keep his liberal side from further exposing itself if he starts taking Newsome’s side in this.

Has he even mustered up a response yet? He obviously knows by now considering his DeSantis obsession.

He should come back to Twitter and quit hiding behind requiring registration to read his posts on his own site too, so people don’t have to wonder.

IF THE POLLS ARE CORRECT.

LOL! Since when do FReepers believe the polls?

Even Trump himself knows the polls are BS. He hasn’t said a bad word about Vivek Ramawamy who is rising in the polling and in second place in a few of them. He’s still only going after DeSantis.

“You just kind of need to be out among the population to get the real pulse . . .”

Let's look at a data point. In 2021 for the first time ever, Republican voter registration exceeded Democrat registrations.

And the trend has accelerated. This year Republican registrations exceed Democrat by over 500,000. That means Florida has gone from a swing state to solid Republican: super majorities in both legislative houses, governorship, Supreme court, cabinet officers (elected in Florida); two GOP U.S. Senators; 20 of 28 U.S. House seats.

This is nothing like California. One state has a Democrat governor, the other a GOP governor. Do you know which one is Republican?

Is there inflation in Florida? Yes.

A Florida man bought a 3M large area paint stripper this week for $10.00 at a hardware store. Two days later he paid over $12.00 for the same item. That's a 20 percent increase; not 7 percent as touted in Washington DC.

But inflation is a national problem; something to do with printing $32 trillion in counterfeit bills.

Housing costs are generally up in Florida; significantly. But even that depends on location, location, location. Housing in Dade County, population 2.6 million, tends to cost more than housing in Liberty County, population 7,600.

Supply and demand.

Implying Trump is afraid to debate? HA!

Clearly, Trump is avoiding any debates. And rightly so. He’d get hammered.

Delusion? OK, what debates has Trump committed to?

The only thing I'm preparing for is schadenfreude, though I'd happily eat crow.

Your delusion is that he is afraid to debate. He kicks ass even when it's him against the debaters and the "moderator".

He will debate when the field has narrowed. Why give credence to the 3 percenters?

It will all depend on who Trump is supporting, verses who he is trashing, in the days ahead.

Chances are it will be Newsome, as Trump has already been praising him recently, while calling DeSantis an SOB at his rallies.

AFTER the event, there's no doubt Trump will declare Newsome the winner though, no matter how it went.

“Debates at this time are not debates but instead gotchas for conservatives.”

It has been that way for as long as I can remember.

The media was biased against Reagan but Reagan prevailed; because he was Reagan.

I will say this: if a candidate and his handlers don’t think they can come up with a strategy to cut through the clutter raised by liberals in a debate then they ought not to debate.

Because if a candidate doesn’t think they can win the debate then they can’t win the debate.

“Newsom will talk national and world politics and leave DeSantis in the dust, at least if his Ukraine screw-ups are any indication.”

Plus - and this is important - the titular head of the Republican Party will be saying good things about Newsom and bad things about DeSantis.

No I disagree. The important issues get lost inn the media misdirection.

Waste of time and can get hurt never helped.

Reagan debates were almost a half century ago. Times have changed and hostile elements prevail. Do it different.

DeSantis needs the airtime. He's still under Trump's shadke.

Newsom is preparing himself for 2028. He'll telling other Democrats that it's going to be his coronation.

Not sure if you disagree with this part of my previous statement:

Get airtime. Just not in debate setting.

Presentation of policy information in a way that gets him elected. Things that are important to people
