Deception by Redaction: More FBI FISA Abuses, This Time Using Fake News in the Washington Post
Real Clear Investigations ^ | 8/1/23 | Paul Sperry

The FBI’s efforts to mislead a federal court in order to wiretap an adviser to the Trump campaign were more extensive than previously reported, according to classified documents described to RealClearInvestigations.

The embattled bureau tried to hide its misconduct by redacting information about its actions under the guise that it involved sensitive intelligence information. RCI has learned that at least some of the redacted material, included in a “Classified Appendix” to Special Counsel John Durham’s final report, has nothing to do with protecting “sources and methods” and other “sensitive” investigative techniques.

Instead, it covers up additional improper behavior by the FBI brass, which initiated and signed off on all four of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act applications to spy on former Trump adviser Carter Page and his contacts within the Trump campaign and presidency in 2016 and 2017.

For example, the FBI tried to justify continuing to spy on Page in early 2017 by indicating to the secret FISA court that it had verified a rumor about Page receiving dirt on Hillary Clinton from the Russian government and facilitating a “well-developed conspiracy of cooperation” with the Kremlin to swing the 2016 election in Trump’s favor. But the bureau had corroborated no such thing. Its source was a front-page report in the Washington Post – one the newspaper later retracted after determining it was false, according to two former U.S. officials who have seen the original, unredacted FISA applications and described the passages to RCI.

They leak bogus information to the media then use the media reports as a basis for probable cause.

The Patriot Act, with its secret courts, was the creation of Republican President George W. Bush. It was one of the greatest assaults on the individual rights enshrined in the Constitution in American history. Any president who truly believe in freedom and liberty would never ask Congress to establish secret courts.

The founders would be shocked that secret FISA courts even exist. They would be shocked that agency heads routinely lie and use the power of government through regulation and law fare to attack political opponents and other citizens. They would be appalled by the support for censorship of speech and the collusion of government and industry to suppress free speech. The imprisonment of January 6 defendants without due process for years without trial would be considered tyrannical.

How far we have fallen. Every time you vote for an evil Republican because he/she isn’t as evil as the Democrat, remember George W. Bush and the Patriot Act.

The FISA abuses and leaks should be charged the way it would be charged if it were done against 0bama. The Russia collusion hoax should be charged as treason the same way any other “Color Revolution” should be.

While I agree 100%, that the Patriot Act is literally an end-run on our Bill of Rights, and is the anthesis of the U. S. Constitution, just remember the Patriot Act was passed with BIPARTISAN support and a great too many American citizens cheering on its creation!

I have said it since the beginning, the Patriot Act was a BROADSIDE ATTACK on the Bill of Rights, fundamentally changing how those rights were viewed and “allowed” to be used...and it was done NOT with a Constitutional Amendment, but just a few votes and a swift pen, and We the People had our rights taken away just like that!

“Star Chamber” courts are not something the Constitution mentions, the last time I read it. As a matter of fact, the courts and expectations concerning our justice system point to an open, fair, fast judicial system. Not ONE of those words describes the debacle we have today!

It seems to me that I recall someone saying that the Patriot Act had basically come out of a drawer in Joe Biden’s desk, all ready for implementation, and was basically the document that was adopted by Congress. Anyone else remember this?

The “Constitution” failed decades ago.

Every fear conservatives had about the Patriot Act have come true. We were assured it would not be used against the American people. They lied.
