Ukraine: An Expendable Country May Soon Run out of Expendables
American Thinker ^ | July 31, 2023 | Alexander G. Markovsky

After the humiliating defeat in Afghanistan, NATO needed another war to justify its existence. This war was supposed to contrast with previous NATO misadventures. It would be sharp and short with no Western casualties. And, this time, NATO would be victorious.

NATO leaders seemed to relish the prospect of war. When in December 2021, in a last-ditch effort, Putin demanded that NATO stop eastward expansion and committed to not admitting Ukraine to NATO, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg arrogantly rejected any discussion of the subject.

Nothing prevented Zelensky from avoiding the war either. If he had renounced his request for NATO membership, it would have satisfied Moscow's demands, and the invasion would have been called off. However, the corrupt rulers in Kiev were not motivated by concern for the stability and integrity of Ukraine. They were moved by billions in financial and military aid and unlimited prospects for personal enrichment.

Some Europeans, locking any capacity on their own for revenge for centuries of defeats and humiliation, saw an opportunity for reprisal, especially without direct military involvement. Biden looked forward to extricating himself from Afghanistan and making the Ukrainian crisis a turning point in his presidency.

Ironically, everybody wanted this war except Putin.

Indeed, NATO designed a daring gambit. The strategy was that America and its allies would provoke Moscow's invasion and use it as a pretext to impose devastating sanctions on Russia.

However, the NATO strategic geniuses failed again. Ukraine did not collapse, the sanctions did not achieve their desired outcome, and NATO got sucked into a war by proxy with Russia.

It seems that the once great American Thinker has become just another fringe conspiracy site, spouting garbage and nonsense.

After what we’ve seen from the U.S. government over the last 3-4 years, I’d say there’s no such thing as “fringe conspiracies” anymore.

Alternate thinking:

After the humiliating Afghan retreat by the Biden Administration, Vladimir Putin understood the long planned invasion of Ukraine would never have a better opportunity.

Aw, you’re upset because they’re not carrying the corrupt corporate media’s approved narrative on Ukraine.

There was no planned invasion so long as Ukraine remained neutral as promised to be after the fall of the Soviet Union.

The Russians at every turn sought peace -- with the Minsk Accords, in 12/21 and with peace talks in Turkey in March of last year.

You refuse to face that fact that we're the aggressors and using our foreign policy as means of modern-day imperialism.

Russia, then the Soviet Union, now the Russian Federation, have been imperialists for more than 300 years.

There is no war that can justify NATO's existence anymore. The nation that the NATO alliance was formed to protect Western Europe against - the Soviet Union - no longer exists - it dissolved over 30 years ago.

We are now engaged in spending billions of US tax dollars to protect one former member of the Soviet Union from another former member of the Soviet Union. Bush I and Clinton should have let Ukraine keep its nukes and fend for itself.

Like I’ve said before isn’t it odd? I mean that all the same players that were behind Russian Collusion, Jan 6 investigation, George Floyd’s “war on black people” and all the other Marxist bull💩 are 100% behind Ukr and Zelensky? Big Tech Lame Stream Media Democrats Neocons Liberals—soccer moms, trans, woke, university profs Biden’s Clinton’s Obama’s’ Bush’s on And on What was the meme someone showed a year ago after the war started? You could tell if you were in the most liberal part of any town by counting the yellow/blue flags and lack of Stars and Stripes ones. IMG-8775

Russia is the aggressor here and historically has been. Having written that, my only concern is our lack of a mission in Ukraine. What is the end game? When I hear sleepy Joe say, “as long as it takes”, it brings to mind our involvement in Vietnam. We either should commit fully to defeating Russia or pull back entirely This drip, drip, drip approach is bleeding us to death and is just prolonging the misery. On top of everything, the very thought of having Ukraine as a NATO member is pure insanity,

“Expendable country?”

Wow. That’s a pretty harsh assessment of 90 million people. I am glad my parents taught me the value of human life.

Patton said we should have rearmed the German troops after the fall of Berlin. And with our British Allies, we should have gone after the Soviets and marched on to Moscow.

Not a bad idea. It was not possible at the time. But in a way, Patton was right.

"Ironically, everybody wanted this war except Putin."

Ironically, some people believe that the guy who started the war somehow didn't want it. That's exactly the same logic you hear from psychopaths sitting in jail. They didn't want to murder their neighbor, the neighbor forced them to do it. They didn't want to rape the girl walking home late at night, her clothes made them do it.

If Putin didn't want to invade Ukraine he would not have ordered his army to invade Ukraine.

And what about Georgia, Crimea, and the Donbass? Did those places also force Putin to invade them?
