Two people are in the hospital and one person is dead after a shootout erupted at a popular mall when a Texas man tracked down alleged thieves accused of stealing his truck.
A shopper at the South Park Mall in San Antonio reportedly noticed his Ford truck had been stolen on Thursday afternoon. The owner tracked down his truck to another side of the South Park Mall, according to the San Antonio Police Department.
There were allegedly two people sitting inside the stolen vehicle — a man in the driver's seat and a woman in the passenger's seat. Police said the owner brandished a firearm and ordered the suspected thieves to exit the vehicle. That's when a shootout broke out.
The man in the driver's seat shot the owner, according to the SAPD. The owner reportedly returned fire — killing the suspected thief and injuring the woman. The female was taken to the hospital and is said to be in critical condition. The truck owner was also hospitalized in stable condition, according to police.
The shooting happened within two minutes of the owner contacting the police, according to the SAPD.

San Antonio Police Department chief William McManus said the owner "had every right to track his vehicle down."
McManus added, "At the moment, it appears to be a case of self-defense."
"Now, we would prefer that [you] call the police before taking that into your own hands, but he did what he felt he needed to do, and we have one dead suspect, and we have a critically wounded passenger who was with the suspect, and we have a wounded owner of the vehicle," he stressed. "Again, he had every right to track his vehicle down."

This kind of thing generally works out better in the movies than in real life.
If the people stole his truck, then he’s not guilty.
The thieves chose...... poorly.
I have absolutely zero sympathy for brazen thieves.
Very true
Good news is always welcomed !
“This kind of thing generally works out better in the movies than in real life.”
That depends on if Alec Baldwin is at the shoot.
My sympathy goes to the truck owner. He didn’t set out to kill someone, that choice was made by the thief and now the owner has to live with taking a life. Hope he accepts he had no choice and it was him or the thief.
Never a good idea to do anything negative face to face.
Too much sacrifice and a nearly guaranteed bad outcome legally.
This underlying cause is the rotting and deteriorating system of pseudo justice that causes infuriated victims and their families to suffer. “And the confession and dna evidence will not be allowed in court.” “The accused is now going free on a technicality and cannot be tried again.”
He went to retrieve his stolen truck, was shot by the thief. He returned, fire, striking both thieves. Not guilty.
Liberal immunity gets more people off the hook than Rapala fishing pliers.
“”Now, we would prefer that [you] call the police before taking that into your own hands, but he did what he felt he needed to do, and we have one dead suspect, and we have a critically wounded passenger who was with the suspect, and we have a wounded owner of the vehicle,” he stressed. “Again, he had every right to track his vehicle down.””
Gotta love Texas.
Lets get to a place where we all say... well of course.
“Texas man tracks down suspect who allegedly stole his truck, kills reported thief during shootout at mall”
Unless there’s some strange twist, it looks to me that the owner acted correctly.
A vehicle owner has every right to track down his stolen property. Once tracked down, he has every right to hold the (likely) thief at gun point. If the thief brandishes a firearm, and especially if he pulls the trigger, he has every right to use deadly force.
BTTT!
McManus added, "At the moment, it appears to be a case of self-defense."
You notice, the chief is going out of his way to keep the door shut on the "poor widdle criminal" lobby that was hoping to raise a wail and release the Burn-Loot-Murderers on this case.
Texas is a different place. A better place.<>
Modern day horse thief. If he wasn’t dead he should be hanged.
You know even a 20 or so year old truck now days can still be worth up to $30K. Could have had it paid off and only had liability on it. And let me tell ya, a mans truck in especially Texas is a sacred item. 4 things you never loan out, your wife, your truck and your boat or dog but not necessarily in that order.
Instant karma is a good thing
This is the type of thinking that promotes such criminal activity:
“The victim was my brother and there are two sides to every story,” Jose Garcia told KENS 5 on the scene. “Whether my brother was wrong or right, he had a gun pointed at him. I guess he took it upon himself to defend himself. The guy who shot him is a vigilante, not a hero. A vehicle is not worth taking someone’s life, I don’t care what kind of car it is. You don’t take the law into your own hands. Now my mom, my family, we all have to suffer and just deal with it.”
Help me out here. How do you “allegedly” sit in a truck?
Reporters are liberal and irresponsible in the use of the word, “allegedly”. No, they are downright dumb.
