Historian Peter Turchin predicted the turbulence of 2020. He tells me why, in 2024, America will reach a ‘break point.’
Peter Turchin is not like most historians. For starters, he has an unusual background as an evolutionary biologist studying lemmings and mice. He says that analyzing the complexities of the natural world has allowed him to understand the most complex system of all: human society. He has pioneered a field of history that he calls cliodynamics that applies hundreds of thousands, maybe millions, of historical data points to a mathematical model in order to understand the present and to predict future trends.
Using these tools, Peter and his team published an article in the journal Nature in 2010 that made a bold prediction. They said that economic, social, and political instability in the United States would hit a “peak” in or around the year 2020. Many of Turchin’s critics said he was crazy to make such a speculation, that it’s too hard to predict how history will progress, that the study of history is more art than science.
Then came 2020.

Na , we just have waaaay too many snake oil salesman out there
He may be right but his explanation of the “musical chairs” analogy did not ring true to me.
People in the Middle Ages who lived during the Black Death thought they were in the end times.
The entire world at war in 1914 had people believe they were living in the end times.
The entire world at war again in 1941 thought they were living in the end times.
People who lived during the Cuban missile crisis thought they were living in the end times.
People in 2020 when COVID was going to wipe out one in four thought they were living in the end times.
Yes, we may be living though the end times, but I’m skeptical.
The future’s uncertain and the end is always near.
Pretty much every generation thinks they’re in the end times. So far they’re all wrong. Play the odds. Tomorrow is probably coming.
One thing we DO know—the end is now closer than it has ever been!
history = competition between modes of thought. Right now it is misintegration (statism) trying to gain control
End Times ping list?
Only if you woke up this mornin' and got yourself a beer
GREAT song!!!
Gosh, I hope so.
Got that right.
Obviously. People in 1500 could say the same.
And you’re still likely to die before it happens. And your children. And your grandchildren. Play the odds, don’t sweat it.
Everyone is always living in their own “end times”.
I say this as a committed Christian believer who is convinced that scripture teaches a “catching up”of the Church, the living and the dead, followed by a period marked by The Enemy in control of events on Earth, punctuated by Divine judgment, followed by... well, those who know that I’m talking about don’t need to hear the rest....
...My personal “end times” are mostly due to age, health, and the Will of God who takes those He will take when He wishes to take them, according to His perfect plan. I could end tomorrow, or in thirty years, or in the next 4 seconds. My part is to be ready to answer the call when it comes.
Ain’t none of us gettin outta here alive!
We’ve been living in the end times for the past two millennia.
I hope the rapture occurs in my lifetime, but if not, oh well.
