Electric vehicle manufacturers have exaggerating the driving range of their vehicles by more than twice as much as advertised in some cases, according to a study by SAE International. On average, electric vehicles (EV) fall short of their advertised range by 12.5%, according to a study by SAE International. The study included 21 different brands, and revealed that EV manufacturers as a whole inflate the range of their vehicles far beyond their actual capabilities. Tesla seems to be inflating the numbers far more than other brands. SAE International revealed that the range displayed on Tesla vehicle’s dashboard is 26% lower than the car’s ability.
This led to a slew of service requests by Tesla customers. The employees denied these requests because, in reality, the batteries did not need to be fixed; they were just operating at a level far below advertised. Tesla employees were informed that they save the company 1000 dollars every time they turn down a service request. Following a fourth-quarter earnings report, Tesla, the electric car company, saw its stock surge to another record high Thursday that blew past estimates, giving the leading maker of electric vehicles a market valuation of $115 billion. The exaggerated range can be attributed to the testing procedures prescribed by the EPA. Although most manufacturers follow these guidelines, Tesla uses additional testing that may boost the car’s purported range. “I’m not suggesting they’re cheating. What they’re doing, at least minimally, is leveraging the current procedures more than the other manufacturers,” said Gregory Pannone, an expert on EV’s. This is not Tesla’s first time being accused of such transgressions. South Korean regulators fined Tesla $2.1 million for exaggerating the performance of their vehicles in 2019. The fine came after it was discovered that Tesla cars drove half of their advertised distance when used in cold weather, according to Reuters.
We’re not going to buy them. There’s a limited use for EVs but that’s about it. They need to make them better. And they haven’t done that yet.
Has anyone seen TeslaGator around here lately?

Before you board a new EV jumbo jet please take this into account.
Also, for cars and trucks we have all heard rumors of extreme cold, heat, humidity and other factors affecting the sticker promised range. And how long the high priced batteries should last. Next year and after should show some evidence of that, pro or con.
“It is beginning to appear that EVs are going to end up being a major problem for those who buy them. Few want to face off the government and tell the truth. “
If you buy one of these turds, you are stuck with it forever, even the wrecking yards won’t take them.
I guess EVs are going to need frequent “boosters” since the performance is less than expected.
Anyone see a pattern here?
There’s a limited use for EVs but that’s about it.

There always has been.
On golf courses and in super markets.
What!?!
My 50 miles in winter will be a lie?

Same applied 100 years ago.
EV’s have the same problems they had back then, but now they are dressed up in prettier packages.

When an article is badly written, questions arise.
I’ll keep digging on the topic and dismiss this unreferenced ‘2-minute read’.
The evidence I’ve seen is that it’s far worse than 12.5 or 26% unless under the ‘optimal’ conditions from which they extract their inflated range figures.
“ SAE International revealed that the range displayed on Tesla vehicle’s dashboard is 26% lower than the car’s ability.”
Is this written correctly?
BTTT
Speaking of EV’s, there’s tons of videos on YouTube showing Chinese made ev’s blowing up.
And there’s currently a car carrier ship burning off the coast of the Netherlands after an ev blew up.
I’m almost certain a burning EV is worse for the environment than any evil vehicle with a ICE.
“Has anyone seen TeslaGator around here lately?”
Probably still waiting for his car to hit 15% charge.🤣
That’s what I was wondering. One would expect that they were displaying a number “higher” than the actual range.
I figured some of the people here were giving us bogus information on EVs. Next question is why?
I guess they could work for short city commutes and short small package routes, but I live in a very rural (as in the middle of no where) area and they sure as hell won’t work here.
It’s 3 1/2 miles to the paved road from my place and in the winter I get an average of 4 feet of snow out of every storm, storms (the bigger ones) come about 3 per month.
Average temps from mid November to the end of April are about 12 to 14 degrees fahrenheit at night and about 22 degrees during the day!
A transport ship from Europe to the USA is sinking in the Atlantic. It caught on fire and the fire spread rapidly. The cause of the fire was determined to be an Electric Vehicle. In our neighborhood 3 weeks ago a home burned to the ground. The cause was an electric vehicle in their garage.
It seems that too many people are totally unaware of a condition called, Thermal Runaway. Multi-Cell batteries are all susceptible to this condition to one extent or another. Some, like LiOn batteries, are more susceptible than others.
How’s that working out for you if you have to drive at NIGHT?
