I remember back in the old days, they had shop class for boys, and home economics for girls.
I know nowadays, some people would think it outrageous that classes were set up segregated by sex.

Yes they did and this young man signed up for it based on an older buddy telling me too. My class had about 20 girls in it and only 1 other guy.

At my junior-high the boys and girls swapped for one fall period; boys in home economics, girls in shop. Was useful.
My 2 kids, one of each sex, now in their forties, each had both shop and home-ec.
I had shop class and loved it! In New Mexico schools I learned to do leather work, lapidary, woodwork, Jewelry, etching, and many other home skills.
In another school I did welding and wood work, steel work, forge work. Still have two book cases I made in 1963.
While I was in the military, some of the items were lost in a move into town. Still got the lapidary gems and ring I did in 1962.

I still make tuna and noodle casserole, and coffee cake, from recipes in Home Ec in the ‘60s.
After graduation, he went on to the Hobart Institute of Welding Technology. That was a 9 month, full time trade school in Ohio.
