McCandless was nothing like these folks. He did know how to survive off-grid. He did it in Alaska no less. If not for a plant mis-identification that was part of his diet...
Hauling a bunch of heavy can goods up in the Rockies in the winter is not living off the land. Did they even think what they were going to eat after they opened that last can of frozen fruit. Me thinks they watched to many survivalist TV shows.
Then I assume these gals will still be voting.

“how to build and maintain a fire”
To my mind, the most important skill, and so many can’t. I’ve seen people on UT start a fire with a butane torch - this works until it runs out. Starting a fire is a skill, and keeping one going all night takes vigilance and a lot of wood. It’s easy to misjudge and run out of wood at 4am.
I’ve seen new campers try and start a fire with damp logs and charcoal lighter. This is funny until it’s cold.
But the saddest part of this story, is that there had to be a moment when they realized they screwed up. But they were too sick or weak to get out.
I don't know their party affiliation, but I'm sure they're white. This sounds like something only white people would do.
Not stupid - insane.
And enablers allowed her to go off to some place to literally commit suicide, and take two others with her.
