Good news, everyone! Mitt Romney (D, but R when necessary-Utah) has a plan for victory in the 2024 presidential race. That plan involves forcing Trump out of the field of candidates. Romney outlined his pathway to victory in an op-ed in The Wall Street Journal. While bemoaning the fact that Trump will likely be the nominee, Romney holds out hope that The Donald can be defeated, provided the race is narrowed down to two contenders before Trump “sews up” the nomination. For that to happen, the mega-donors and influencers in the GOP must convince those candidates who do not have a realistic chance of winning to drop out of the race. He concedes that this may be easier said than done, but the risk of having expendable candidates in the race is just too high:
There are incentives for no-hope candidates to overstay their prospects. Coming in behind first place may grease another run in four years or have market value of its own: Mike Huckabee and Rick Santorum got paying gigs. And as former New Hampshire Gov. John H. Sununu has observed, “It is fun running for president if you know you cannot win.”
Left to their own inclinations, expect several of the contenders to stay in the race for a long time. They will split the non-Trump vote, giving him the prize. A plurality is all that is needed for winner-take-all primaries.
Romney suggests a drop-dead date of Monday, Feb. 26. That is the first business day after the contests in New Hampshire, Iowa, South Carolina, and Nevada. He goes so far as to suggest that donors to lower-tier candidates extract a pledge from them that they will drop out if their prospects are dim after the fateful Monday.

What is striking is that Romney does not trust the party leaders to do the right thing and show Trump the door.
He wrote:
Donors may think that party leaders can narrow the field. Not so. Candidates don’t listen to party officials, because voters don’t listen to them either. And the last people who would ever encourage a candidate to withdraw are the campaign staff and consultants who want to keep their jobs for as long as possible. They buck up candidates, promoting long-shot prospects and favorably biased internal polls. I can almost hear the words from “Dumb and Dumber”—“So you’re telling me there’s a chance?”
The schism between conservatives and republicans keeps growing wider.
.
It’s got something to do with magic underwear.
Romney said he hasn’t seen any evidence Joe knew anything about Hunter’s and his brothers, sister’s, and Grandkids bidness.
Which is how a sleaze bag would weasel word a lying statement.
“The schism between conservatives and republicans keeps growing wider.” No truer words...
RINO’s are nothing more than Democrat lite. Period. Backbencher Swamp Creatures. And content to be so.
[Mitt Romney’s Plan to Oust Trump]
Just how deep is Mitt Romney tied in with Burisma in Ukraine?
It doesn’t matter what game a guy like Romney wants to play, the 45th President can handle any game they throw at him.
Crowded Field until the Convention: Trump wins.
Trump vs one dwarf candidate until the Convention: Trump wins.
Sounds like myth got his magic underwear to tight again
I think of it more as a chasm between RINOs and Republicans. Let’s not concede to them the organization itself, lest we end up with a new Bull Moose Party.
The question is, what does Romney fear more: Trump losing and giving Biden/Harris 4 more years, or Trump winning? I believe he doesn’t like either outcome, but which does he think is worse? If Trump is the nominee and Romney never says anything for or against either candidate all through the campaign, that means he prefers a Biden win.
Many might find it hard to believe, but Romney endorsing Trump could be the difference between him winning and losing. I think a Romney endorsement of Trump, with heavy attacks on Biden, would carry weight with the more RINOish Republican voters. If Romney says nothing next year, that will tell us he doesn’t want to possibly put Trump over the top.
Mutt needs more covid boosters. Can’t be too safe, Mutt, double up on the boosters!
But you know, he was over weight and his family all posed in matching shirts and that was much more important then any thing else.
And he was open borders and he pardoned a murderer who murdered again and he was a milquetoast ... but those things aren’t important.
Not the case, my FRiend.
Life long Conservative and life long GOPer, here.
The Romneys and the Cheneys and the McCains will always try to move us toward the Dems, but we've known better than to split the party, save for the disastrous Perot experiment.
We can see the early attempts to split our party again already, Romney, Manchin and others want to cooperate with the Dems and form a third party to split the GOP, one more time.
We should resist this, as it is a prescription for failure.
The GOP is in fact the modern Bull Moose Progressive Party, John Roosevelt McCain made sure of that. The Romneys and the McConnells and many others keep it that way by hook or by crook.
.
Good thinking
Mitt Romney must be in very deep
Methinks he doth protesteth too much
This is so pathetic.
Had Romney not pealed away that small handful of potentially R voters who actually listen to people like him, Trump would not be the nominee in 2024 because he would be term limited.
It is ironic that Romney’s own behavior (and those like him) is why he is now so tormented about 2024. He’d have just over a year left of his supposed nightmare.
IF THAT’S THE CASE...THEN I AM A PROUD, PATRIOTIC, AMERICAN LOVING...CONSERVATIVE.
And so are many others.
Many have been waiting for a NEW Party.
Why not CONSERVATIVES???
