The newly-elected mayor of Jacksonville has allocated $500,000 in the Florida city’s budget to remove a monument dedicated to women who lost loved ones serving in the Confederate army.
Donna Deegan — a progressive Democrat who toppled her Republican opponent in Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ backyard — had pledged to topple the monument and lined up the dollars to do so.
“We are looking at all potential options and Mayor Deegan remains committed to removing the Springfield Park monument,” her spokesperson, Philip Perry, tweeted.
Erected in 1915, the monument is one of the last Confederate memorials remaining in Jacksonville, the nation’s largest city in terms of contiguous land mass.

Her priorities are questionable. It would seem that a lot of voters have their heads up their a-double snakes.
What business man would do that if he didn’t have to?
Lambeau field is 66 years old and was good enough to be home field to 4 superbowl championship teams and I don’t hear those people bitching about wanting a new stadium.
“One thing we should keep in mind is that this is NOT a
memorial to confederate soldiers but to WIDOWS who lost
their husbands.”
Yes, just a statue of a woman sitting down with 2 children by her side and a Bible open on her lap.
I know in todays crazy world someone might find the Bible offensive, but other than that how on earth could you hate this statue so much that you would spend $500k to move/destroy it?
Who do you think these books are targeting?
Have you not kept up with what has been going on in these children's libraries?
The parent of a child attempts to read one of these books at a school meeting and the board tries to stop it because it is so disgusting.
It’s none of my business what other people read, listen to, or look at, period.
I think you need to have a larger understanding of things. In 1930s Germany they were spreading all sorts of anti-Jewish nonsense. Horrible stuff.
People reading it were directly affected by what they read. It conditioned them to view Jews as "untermenschen" (sub-human) and it convinced people to accept all the horrible things that were done to them.
It very much makes a difference what people read. It can affect all of us, and not always in a good way.
Let me guess. $490,000 for “consulting” fees for her friends and $10,000 to bulldoze the thing.
First thing I will do when I am elected is pulverize the abominable MLK statues. Especially that hideous one the Chinese made in DC.
Donna was local TV news reader. She was married to the sports guy at the station. Had an affair with the weather guy. Divorced the sports guy and is still married to Tim Deegan the weather guy. YEP she has outstanding moral compass, right?
How bout erecting a statue to people who cheat on the spouse they have covenanted to love cherish honor an respect? huh?

Ok so ya got me. My pics of her were old. Still I wood.
She despicably played the breast cancer survivor card in many of her campaign ads because she hasn’t got any political experience at all.
I guess it resonated with women and here we are.....that won’t mean jack squat when it comes time to lead.....it’ll just be SJW reactionary decisions that will damage an already damaged city.
👍👍👍
GUILTY ! Leatherface.
Stalinazi is the best description. “Liberal” is what the Founding Fathers were, a label stolen by the Marxist left. “Progressive” was actually the name of the American Communist Party in 1948, but it has a “nice” sounding name, but is anything but.
That make up was put on with a putty knife. She needs two bags.
Excellent!
Why do Dems feel it’s necessary to rewrite school history books, remove statues, ban flags, rename streets, etc., in their attempts to totally change the history of our Republic?
