When Chase Merrill took his first ride in his new Rivian R1S, it was his favorite car that he had ever driven. Merrill, 24, put down a deposit on an R1S three years ago at the urging of family members who also own Rivians. He was unsure about making the switch from his 2015 Ford Edge to a fully electric SUV, especially since he lives in a relatively remote area in the Adirondack Mountains, New York.
But once he got behind the wheel of the $85,626 car on March 10, those worries melted away. "I was in a honeymoon phase," Merrill said in an interview with Insider. "It's an incredible car, and it handles unlike anything I've ever driven" β but the honeymoon didn't last long. Two days later, Merrill drove his R1S to his family's shared property in the mountains. He wanted to put his rugged electric SUV to the test, so he drove it on the unplowed, snow-covered road into the property. At first, the R1S sliced through the snow. Then, a large snowdrift stymied the car, he said.

I had a subscription to Car & Driver for a long time, but dropped it because of snarky leftist political comments in the articles. That idiot with the big white dog was the worst, can’t remember his name.
It was a good magazine once.
Why would you want to make it slower?
Just another day in Paradise, my FRiend.
I'm prayin' they do away with the mask so I can breathe easy if n' when we visit again.
No English speaker would ever say, “ . . . it was his favorite car that he had ever driven. “
A robo-monkey might.
The AI coders Kumar and Hang Lo may talk like that.
Yup, me too. Then they kept trying to send C&D and R&T for FREE after I cancelled.
I emailed making it clear I don’t want either (same company) in my house nor want any further digital commumications.
They probably push the EVs like the Wu Hu Flu jabs were ...
It goes up the way an alcoholic feels no pain until the crash.
Most drunk drivers don’t get seriously hurt because they just bounce around in the crash. It’s the sober victims that get hurt.
/source, my grandfather drove through a telephone pole on more than one occasion and suffered absolutely nothing, not even a bruise either time.
I meant withdrawal crash, not an automobile accident.
Oh - my misunderstanding!
I got a Rivian
I got a Rivian
I got a Rivian
Na nann nee na na....
You sound like my wife. My truck is 23 years old and is becoming a rust bucket. I've got duct tape on the roof covering rust holes, a couple cracks in the windshield from rocks hitting it, and rust on the rear bumper.
I was thinking of selling it and getting a new truck. She says no, we'll keep driving it until it completely falls apart, as long as it gets us from A to B and hauls stuff. I can see her point, what with new trucks costing 3 to 4 times what we paid for our old truck when new.
It’s too bad Rivian doesn’t make their truck with a gas engine. They’re cool looking and nicely sized. But EVs are Stoopid.
He will be off with the Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro.
Nice looking pickup truck.
The third generation Tacomas are suffering a bit from the technology overload car companies are piling on vehicles. I just got a 2013 second generation with 100 K on it. Itβs my forever truck. Even with the 4.0 Liter, driven easily I get 23+ mpg.
I don’t plan on ever living where EVs, at their current technological revision, are practical.
Chances are that old EVs with battery packs needing replacement will be available cheap in the future, and at the rate things are going, I don’t expect all the manufacturers to still be in business to support restoring them back to original function.
Maybe that revolution in batteries we’ve been hearing about for the last 40 years will happen in the meantime and that will change the calculus.
Moron.
