ANKENY, Iowa — The campaign train chugged along for Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ presidential aspirations Saturday. DeSantis made several stops in Iowa, most notably an appearance with Rep. Zach Nunn’s event Saturday afternoon.
DeSantis appeared at the Operation: Top Nunn program at the Ankeny Regional Airport. The event honored America’s military, and DeSantis shared his concerns for the troops during the ceremony.
“We will get the political agenda out of the military and take the woke agenda out,” DeSantis told the crowd. “We will restore the military to its proper mission.”
DeSantis took questions from the media following the program and stoked a simmering feud between him and former President Donald Trump. DeSantis told a WHO 13 reporter he is frustrated with Trump’s social media post complaining about Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds’ neutrality in the caucus process.
“I just could not believe when I read that,” DeSantis said. “The number one thing that people in Iowa come up to me and shake their heads about is Donald Trump attacking Kim Reynolds. These were people who were planning on supporting [Trump] who are now not doing that. That is not the way we win as Republicans, the way to win is to unite Republicans.”

And for those that support Trump, does his actions vis-a-vis Governor Kim Reynolds gain him even a single vote?
“Do people truly believe Ron DeSantis is going to wage war on the Deep State when the viability of his campaign now hinges solely on the Deep State suceeding in taking out Trump”- David Giglio, GOP Candidate- CA 13
DeSantian’s are either deluded or complicit.
Trump 2.0 has emerged. The Nomination is over.
What exactly is Trump 2.0? I’ve seen this commented on FR in recent weeks, nowhere else. Maybe you or someone could write a vanity thread on FR to share just what that means and does not mean? Compare or contrast to ‘Trump playing 4D chess’ and so forth. Seriously, I am curious just what you and everyone see as Trump 2.0.
And what about the question and issue of Trump criticizing a very popular Republican governor and others. Please take a second to answer that. Thank you.
And is Trump 2.0 to criticize successful Republican governors like Kim Reynolds? As I ask in the inital comment, what vote did this gain for Trump?
It means, they pissed him off, and the gloves are fully off this time. No more mr.nic3 guy. No mercy (hat tip, Wyane Alken Root.)
Irrelevant on the national stage, unless said governor is sufficiently vicious to collaborate in election manipulation (ie. Kemp/ Ducey).
Yesterday, Karri Lake repeatedly praised Governor Reynolds and her new pro-life legislation. Both are counter to Trump. Will we see him trask Lake next?
Where can FReepers catch Ron’s Turning Point speech?
Clearly we are at odds here. President Trump has more than his share of flaws, but he has been the only candidate who has expressed an authentic and realistic appraisal of USA politics- and its worthy of derision. The people who run and rule this country are not worthy of our respect or deference- career striver and politician Rob DeSantis is just one in a long line.
I have had my differences with you, but I agree wholeheartedly.
BTW, where does Roger Stone fit in? Surprised to see him on the speaker list.
Understood. But can you explain the logic of criticizing a popular sitting Republican governor. I notice no one in this thread will address that question and how it adds voters to Trump in the national election, much less the primaries and caucuses.
—> He looks like a petulant child, a bully, thinking endorsement means lifelong fealty.
If MAGA supporters voted for her because trump endorsed her, they like to know if he withdraws his endorsement.
He endorsed her publicly.
He should unendorse her publicly.
Some people might not like it.
That’s their right.
Just because trump endorsed her doesn’t mean he can’t unendorse her.
Trump’s endorsement doesn’t mean lifelong fealty.
And Governor Kim Reynolds? How is criticizing her helping Trump in Iowa or nationally? What voter did she add? I notice you haven’t answered those questions, which are serious, as I’ve written frequently, the continued trashing of fellow Republicans is not gaining votes, Trump is only setting himself up to lose and claim martyrdom.
Did President Trump unendorse Governor Kim Reynolds? Because she announced neutrality now with the upcoming Iowa caucuses? Or because she signed new pro-life legislation that runs counter to his views? And on that, Karri Lake repeated praised the Governor’s pro-life success, which mirrors Governor DeSantis success in Florida. So will we see Karri Lake “unendorsed”?
Trump didn't "trash" Governor Reynolds.
Can you explain the logic of criticizing and attacking the most popular Republican figure in USA history- a person who many of us believe was cheated out of his second term Presidency through organized collusion between the same Republican elements who now cheer lead Ron DeSantis?
President Trump is a generational political leader. He made mistakes, of course, but many in retrospect. The level of vitriol and criminal government criminality in opposition is unparalleled (other periods in American history have had more vitriol but never the criminal institutional dishonesty and obstruction).
For his political patrons, and relative nabobs such as Kim Reynolds to nip at his heels is offensive and preposterous. She deserves what she gets. Put Trump v Reynolds on any ballot in Iowa, I guarantee Trump gets 70% minimum.
Recognizing his issues, I truly believe that a second and transformative Trump presidency is the only thing that will save the United States from Civil War. Long term, IDK if that is a good thing, given the decline, but millions will live if so. Like the British Empire, the USA, however degenerated, is a net good.
