Why do disgraced Americans like Scott Ritter spout pro-Putin propaganda in Russia?

Former UN weapons inspector Scott Ritter is touring Russian cities and claiming Ukraine will lose the war. Why do he and other disgraced Americans insist on defending Putin's rhetoric?

Russian propaganda outlets have loved quoting Americans they believe are arguing in Moscow's favour ever since the 2014 invasion of Ukraine, and even more so since the full-scale attack launched in February last year.

While the concept of Western intellectuals kowtowing to Soviet leadership – and downplaying their crimes – was relatively common during the Cold War, it has gained new momentum since Russian President Vladimir Putin made clear his plans to either break up or occupy the entirety of Ukraine.

Ritter is a convicted sex offender, having been caught exposing himself to minors online on several occasions. He served a year and a half in prison. Despite this, he claims he was being targeted by the US administration for his opposition to the war in Iraq.

I don’t think there’s any way around the fact that Putin is fighting the globalists.

This simplifies the problem quite well.

(That is, it’s the globalists who want to kill us the most, much less so Putin.)

There is another objective means to gain perspective on this, one much better than wading through anonymous posts on the internet which claim special knowledge while doling out passive aggressive insults:

The fact that all the leftists, all the rinos and all the globalists are desperate to demonize Putin.

Yep, the Russians are better than us across the board. Right?

“Yep, the Russians are better than us across the board. Right?”

Certainly hypersonics. We can’t hold a candle to them on that. That’s why they’re able to land their missiles anywhere in Ukraine they choose (and anywhere in the US, if it ever comes to that).

The “globalists” are a fiction. There is no such discrete entity. There are different people, or peoples, with distinct interests, many of them in conflict.

The backers of Ukraine, for instance, include many with severe conflicts with people you label as “globalists”. These include the Poles, especially their most nationalist factions. Your array of enemies includes millions who you would otherwise be glad to greet as friends.

And any similarities among “globalists” are due to cultural congruence of SOME subcultures in some countries. Culture and perceived identity explain more than conspiracies.

Americans spout pro-DC propaganda in lockstep with Obama, Hillary, Schumer, Romney, McCain, Graham, Joe Biden, Hunter Biden, Boris, Macron, Trudeau, Von Der Leyen, and every evil leftist that can be found.

And you admire the people who do it, and think that is patriotic?

Noted.

Why do so many ignore corruption in Ukraine - that extends and includes corruption in the WH?

The only way to present truth as fiction and fiction as truth is to forfeit your credibility.

Meanwhile the globalists, as Trump calls them, use posters on websites to perpetrate their low IQ attempts to destroy America.

You admire Putin and his band of thugs who have murdered thousands for no more than exposing the truth about him.

There is fiction, but there are also lots of truths.

You can deceive yourself by noting only truth A but ignoring truth B. That, not lies, is the usual way of things. A problem with perspective.

In this case, IMHO, US domestic politics and its bitter social warfare drowns out the situation outside the US. Some people way overemphasize truth A, and ignore B, C, D... They are so eager to get at their domestic enemies that they build their worldview around it.

This is wrong. The world hasn’t got just one devil or one problem.

You will find lots of variations of this on the left of course. They will see a problem, obsess over it, and construct a narrative around it.

You’re right that identifying and understanding the multitude of dynamics is essential. But the final steps in the analysis are to spot the most important variables and reduce the complex to simple form. Most analysts are not strong on this last point.

Globalism aspires to hide itself by splintering into many small pieces, like the broomsticks of Fantasia, but globalism’s fatal error is in its flawed perspective. This is the real world, not Disneyland.

The monolith of globalism is unable to hide itself, no matter how many online posters it recruits as playwrights. One day it will be splintered, yes. But it will be dead.

“But the final steps in the analysis are to spot the most important variables and reduce the complex to simple form.”

This is the wrong way to go about it. As a veteran of messing with complex technical systems this is not at all a valid approach. There is no “simple form”. Design Problem A isn’t likely to be downstream of Problem B, though it could be, or maybe Problem C interacts with B but can independently bite you regardless. Not simple, nor simplifiable.

“Globalism” isn’t an entity. It does not “hide itself”. It doesnt “think”. What you want to reduce into simplicity, or personalise, is a very large number of diverse, independent actors responding to incentives created within their mileu by contingent factors, such as changes in technology, etc.

Some prominent people expressing their whimsy or fatuity for the sake of their vanity or status within their subculture does not make an entity. You can explain them very well with Thorstein Veblen.

Personalising this is useful both for propaganda purposes and to offer a degree of comfort. But in either case it is wrong. Fantasy, Disney, is all about assuming that theres a black hat.

A far more realistic way to see these conflicts is the sociological approach of Angelo Codevilla.

All human traits and behaviors attributable on an individual level can be done with regard to groups. So yes, globalism thinks.

The greatest technical advances in all of human civilization are a result of the ability to make the complex simple.

One of the ways globalism tries to hide itself is in its recruitment of individuals who post things like “globalism is not an entity” and “globalism doesn’t hide itself.”

Your every point is wrong, plainly put.

Maybe it is due to overly simplified education. The prevalent romantic view of “science”. Or a lack of experience in relevant things, like real engineering.
But there we are.

I am not in a position to rectify every misunderstanding implied in what you wrote. I hope you do put some effort into it, but that’s all I can do.

Klaus Schwab and Co are fabulists.
They think they are masters of the universe, but they aren’t. The world is way bigger than they are, and so is the mass of diverse (in a good way) interests set against them.
