Ron DeSantis says he wouldn't be Trump's running mate: 'I'm not a No. 2 guy'

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said Tuesday he would not be former President Donald Trump’s running mate if given the opportunity to join him on the ticket.

“I don’t think so. I’m not a No. 2 guy,” DeSantis said on the “Wisconsin Right Now” radio show, saying he would rather stay on as governor because the vice presidency “doesn’t really have any authority.”

Asked about his own thoughts on a running mate, DeSantis said, "It’s a little bit presumptuous to be doing that at this stage."

"I’m here to win the early primaries, and that’s what we’ve got to do first," he added.

Oh, I’m sure one way or another we’ll have plenty to talk about next year.

He didn’t say he wouldn’t run for POTUS in the debates.

Because he didn’t say anything *at all* about his aspirations in the debates. What a ballsy, call it like it is guy! Not. That’s why he’s not presidential material.

But when he ran for a 2nd term as Florida’s governor he was making an implicit promise to Floridians that he’d stay the course.

And now he should.

>> he’s taken the hard road of fighting Trump

“The hard road of fighting Trump”. Yeah right. What makes it a hard road, Eagle? I’ll tell you what: President Trump has traveled that road, and RdS has not. And Trump has talent and almighty favor in that endeavor. And RdS has no talent or experience there.

No, actually, RdS has shown that he’s a low-discernment idiot when attempting to play in the national arena. His ego has gotten in the way of what he knows to be right. He needs to stay in Florida — a state he can manage, with a nice friendly legislature. He’s too immature for national prime time, let alone protecting and advancing the US position in a world full of danger.

Dope. Another know-it-all. He could have learned a LOT from Trump…especially foreign policy.

I was never anti-DeSantis like so many here, but he blew it with this statement. Apparently he never learned anything in the Navy, Harvard, or Yale… except privilege and arrogance.

So, explain why you want desantis

Now that he wouldn’t choose you and your future political career has been burned to a crisp on the bonfire of your own vanity, now you wouldn’t serve a VP.

Idiot.

You could have served one term as VP and then inherited the MAGA mantle. Instead you took a quick payout from Rupert Murdoch and let the RINOs talk you into being their tool. Now you’re done.

Nah. Kari is in her prime. She hasn’t shown herself to be a tool of the RINO Establishment nor has she shown herself to be a lousy campaigner like DeSantis has.

It started with that Twitter Spaces announcement fiasco, and never got any better.

desantis is quite the pretentious

You have to be, to run for President. That's why they call it "ambition."

Besides, it was never good politics for a Trump/DeSantis ticket given the nature of the Electoral College. It runs the risk of ending up with a split administration, since Florida can't vote for both Trump and DeSantis unless one of them changed their state of residence.

However, DeSantis would do well in a Trump administration in a Cabinet position, say, as Attorney General. Then he could build up his team of DC insiders for a 2028 run of his own.
