Charles Manson follower Leslie Van Houten walked out of a California prison Tuesday after serving 53 years of a life sentence for her participation in two infamous murders.
The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation said Van Houten 'was released to parole supervision.'
Her release comes days after Gov. Gavin Newsom announced he would not fight a state appeals court ruling that Van Houten should be granted parole.

I hope somebody knocks her off in the not-too-distant-future.
So stabbing someone 16 times is 'helping'?
>> If someone can’t get the death penalty for killing a pregnant woman for no reason, then what would qualify?
In California? Being a Christian and a Trump supporter.
Stealing a lectern.
She doesn’t look too terrible for 73. Just think if she had not done the crimes and been able to live a happy life outside of prison for the last 53 years.
Although that would have meant a lot more time out in the sun - which may have made those wrinkles even worse.
One tragic story in the Anthony Robbins self-help lectures was his trying to help a woman recover psychologically. Her husband was pumping gas and two guys arrived and shot him dead.
The two had just been released from prison and couldn’t cope with the adjustment and liked having someone choose and do everything for them so they made the decision to murder the first person they saw at the gas station and go back to prison. Purely by chance the woman’s husband was the victim.
You are right.
Oprah will get her on her show. She’ll do okay.
This is why I’m still for capital punishment. They give them life sentences and then let them go anyway.
NO parole for first degree murder - EVER.
Probably and she will be paid for her story, make more money than she will know what to do with, write a tell book about Charlie and who knows what else. Thank The Lord I no longer have cable so I don’t have to watch it.
Can she get a spot on the reparations committee?
Where’s the part about professorship offer from Ivy League universities, board seat on woke companies and a contract to appear regularly on CNN?
And, do I hear the White House calling?

I moved to Hollywood with my future wife ~ 9 months before the murders...and our apt was only a few drive minutes from both murder sites.
Even without a TV, Manson & the the murders were the only topic of conversation I heard for a long time.
She stabbed that girl 16 times... Said she enjoyed it.Feel sad for the girls family.
RE: ... a new trial and got a new sentence, which made her eligible for parole.
Only thing missing now is a sincere apology for her having to live in America.
So true. The victims of murder are dead and their loved ones grieve. The killers made up their minds quickly, sometimes while on drugs or coming down from them, and just murdered someone.
Then we make sentencing plea bargain deals, have juries deliberate, re-try, have new trials and often reduce a sentence or allow parole.
That not only “fails to deter” as the critics say about capital punishment, but it causes criminals to be emboldened.
Soon to be teaching at University of California, Berkeley
I don’t understand why on the net are websites that say her net worth is 15 million?
I thought you could not profit from your crimes in prison? Where did this money come from?
Or working in the Brandon mis-administration
