They how many thousands if not hundreds of thousands of bots scraping twitter and other sites to get data for analysis etc.
So I would expect if they have instituted this their traffic would drop significantly as all that traffic will now go away.
A lot of the traffic was bots, I doubt the dropoff is real. And Threads will wither.
