VAJEBlittlecreek2

Joint Expeditionary Base–Little Creek, formerly known as Naval Amphibious Base Little Creek and commonly called simply Little Creek, is the major operating base for the Amphibious Forces in the United States Navy's Atlantic Fleet. The base comprises four locations in three states, including almost 12,000 acres of real estate. Its Little Creek location in Virginia Beach, Virginia, totals 2,120 acres of land.

Outlying facilities include 350 acres located just north of Training Support Center Hampton Roads in Virginia Beach and 21 acres known as Radio Island at Morehead City, North Carolina, used for U.S. Coast Guard ships and personnel as well as serves as an amphibious embarkation/debarkation area for U.S. Marine Corps units at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

It is also home to the Naval School of Music.

The mission of the Naval Amphibious Base is to provide required support services to over 15,000 personnel of the 27 homeported ships and 78 resident and/or supported activities. The base's combination of operational, support, and training facilities are geared predominantly to amphibious operations, making the base unique among bases of the United States and Allied Navies. The Naval Amphibious Base Little Creek is the largest base of its kind in the world.

Growing over the years to meet the needs of the amphibious force, the base has developed into one of the most modern in the Navy. Thousands of men and women from all branches of the Armed Forces, as well as military students from foreign nations, now pass through the gates of the Naval Amphibious Base yearly for training in amphibious warfare. Today nearly 13,000 sailors, Marines, and civilian employees are assigned to the various stations or attend schools at the Naval Amphibious Base, Little Creek in support of the Navy/Marine Corps team.

My son was based in Little Creek for 7 years, now a Mustang.Navy rules prevented him from finishing his degree enlisted, so he bailed just about to be made E7, got a degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Went back to Navy degree in hand, “Guarantee me flight school in writing and I’ll come back for OCS.” They did, he is now a Lt. and helo pilot.

Met & married a Marine pilot in flight school, she’s now a Capt. Guess where she’s based?????

July 11

Who Deserves the Praise?

Bible in a Year:

Every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything.

Hebrews 3:4

From the spiral staircase to the expansive bedroom, from the hardwood floors to the plush carpeting, from the huge laundry room to the well-organized office, the realtor showed a potential home to the young couple. At every corner they turned, they raved about its beauty: “You’ve picked the best place for us. This house is amazing!” Then the realtor responded with something they thought a bit unusual yet true: “I’ll pass along your compliment to the builder. The one who built the house deserves the praise; not the house itself or the one who shows it off.”

The realtor’s words echo the writer of Hebrews: “The builder of a house has greater honor than the house itself” (3:3). The writer was comparing the faithfulness of Jesus, the Son of God, with the prophet Moses (vv. 1–6). Though Moses was privileged to speak to God face-to-face and to see His form (Numbers 12:8), he was still only “a servant” in the house of God (Hebrews 3:5). Christ as the Creator (1:2, 10) deserves honor as the divine “builder of everything” and as the Son “over God’s house” (3:4, 6). God’s house is His people.

When we serve God faithfully, it’s Jesus the divine builder who deserves the honor. Any praise we, God’s house, receive ultimately belongs to Him.

Reflect & Pray

What has God built into you? What are unique ways you can give honor to Jesus if you’re complimented?

Jesus, You deserve all my praise. May my life and words give You that praise on this day.

This might be a dumb question but do Freeps actually go visit / camp / RV get together at these bases or is it just a virtual experience? I do enjoy these threads.

My ship and I did about 2 years in and out of Little Creek.

It beat docking @ NOB in Norfolk and driving to and from.

I felt safe there with all of the SEAL teams and our other guys with guns.

My wife became a regular caller and visitor after an 8 hour tour of RN duty. She would call up and find out when our little ship was returning. So, she and several wives often greeted our ship getting back at odd hours.

One time she and a friend handled the docking lines when no one else was handy. We tossed them some gloves and they helped us to dock.

As far as visiting, I imagine those who have family or friends stationed at one of them, they visit occasionally.
As for camping on the bases, I doubt it. You can’t just go on a base without good reason to be there.

Fortunately, we have these Road Trip threads and can learn a little about each one. I enjoy them, too, as do others.

AHHHHhhhh! I always thought it was a Freeper Vet get together / actual road trip... I’m a disabled vet and can get on posts... I thought this was a Freeper Veteran meet up at some bases. Most Bases actually have RV campgrounds. I camped at Vandenberg Western Space Port last year for a rocket launch. It was pretty cool. It was my first time being on a base in 20 years. First time I felt safe in 20 years.

No, it’s just a way to learn about the various bases across the country. The threads have been running for several years, and once all have been covered, they start over again with different info.

FReeper Vet get-togethers at some of them do sound like fun though.

I didn’t know RV camps had been set up at a lot of the bases. It’s been a looooooooong time since I was a military wife and if there was a campground of any sort at Camp Lejeune, I was unaware of it. But then we lived off base and there’s a lot I didn’t know about that was tucked in the woods. :-)

My blue eyes are green with envy. I’ve always wanted to see a rocket launch for real - - not on TV or YouTube. What an exhilarating experience it must be! I hope you had a great time at Vandenburg.
