GOP Is Leaning Into Moderate, Experienced Senate Candidates In 2024 To Avoid Another Failed Red Wave, Experts Say

Republicans are looking to recruit moderate and experienced candidates for Senate races in 2024 to avoid a repeat of losses in the 2022 midterms, GOP campaign experts and conservative commentators told the Daily Caller News Foundation.

The National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC), the GOP’s campaign arm responsible for Senate elections, is looking to place moderate nominees with elected experience in competitive races, experts told the DCNF. An emphasis on electability offered by experienced candidates, they said, is essential to winning — unlike novice candidates subscribing to former President Donald Trump’s brand of populism. (RELATED: In Blow To GOP, Rep. Mike Gallagher Decides Against Senate Run)

In the 2022 midterm elections, Trump’s endorsement helped several populist candidates in Arizona, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania and Georgia win primary races over moderate candidates. All of them went on to lose their elections, which observers ascribed to their Trump-style views that were unpalatable to general election voters, with a “red wave” failing to materialize.

The concern has led to “electability” as being a top priority for candidates endorsed by the NRSC. A spokesperson for Republican Sen. Steve Daines of Montana, the NRSC’s chairman, told the DCNF that his “number one priority is recruiting candidates who can win a primary and a general election.”

On the issue of Walker, we must recognize that two moderate Republicans were beaten by the Democrats two years earlier. His opponent, Rafael Warnock, certainly had character issues. When we look at the general election vs. the runoff, Warnock increased his margin from 38,000 to over 99,000. The reason there was a runoff was caused by a Libertarian Party candidate receiving 2% of the vote. Those voters would either have not voted or supported Walker, who would be closer to libertarians on economic and limited government issues. So what happened? Warnock's runoff numbers declined by 126,000, while Walker's declined by 187,000. Either the Democrats cheated or they did a better job getting their voters to the polls.

My bet is on the former. This Senate seat assured Schumer would be majority leader in 2023. It was too important to lose. Walker did underperform vs. incumbent Governor Deal. Now whether that was due to country club weenies and soccer moms not liking Walker or the Democrats at the national perhaps not wanting Stacey Abrams is a question.

He ran into some family problems that also tripped him up. But he DID underperform Gov Kemp.

Mixed emotions on this - we desperately need to capture seats in the Senate to avoid dependence on the RINOs, but it seems like the only “established “ candidates are, themselves, RINOs. I hate this situation, but I am not into letting the Communist Dems win ANYTHING.

And the GOPE unilaterally refuseing to support them.

We need to clean up Congress, and the only way you do that
is put solid people in.

I don’t want another few decades of us holding in place
while our guys are in office, then letting the Left
advance again when they are.

“Republicans failed to make expected Senate gains in 2022’s midterm elections after novice GOP candidates lost critical races.”

Because the RINOs did not support Trump candidates. We’re supposed to support more Mitt Romneys? I don’t think so.

Whenever I see or hear this crap, the term, “Stupid Party” comes to mind.

Someone should tell these intellectually blind dipshiits that the red wave was a dud because of VOTER FRAUD. Compromising conservative principles is not going to make elections more honest.

The Democrats are no longer a political party who's goals and values differ from yours by measurable degrees - it's an organization that openly rejects God's commandments, promotes corruption of the innocent, celebrates perversion, rejects America's founding ideals while attempting to rewrite it's history and enthusiastically embraces evil.

Electing spineless "Moderates" to oppose them is like sending your high school chess club out to battle MMA fighters. Obviously the so-called Republican leadership hasn't learned "reaching across the aisle" to these monsters is like dropping the soap in a prison shower...just without any reach-around.

Or they DO know and actually ARE working against us as half of a Uniparty - as their love of financing the RINOs and country clubbers over MAGA warriors indicates.

Perhaps one reason my state of Tennessee remains solid red is that we aren't made to declare party preference; so we tend to donate our money and time to candidates more directly without a party's central control. If the national-level RNC continues to be useless at best and damaging too often maybe they should be reduced to an advisory role too.

The same sort of situation occurred in Arizona, where the candidate was robbed. But first, I’ve never heard of the writer Arjun Singh, and while I feel sure he can tell me much on his religion, I doubt sincerely from the lack of input from actual beings in his report, that he can tell me much about American politics.

I’m doing my part. I have not voted for John “Bobbit” Cornyn since he voted to bail out the car unions!

And as of this year, I will no longer vote for Kay Granger. She voted AGAINST censuring Adam Schitt..uh..I mean Schiff, Adam Schiff in her committee vote. But, after hearing from many of her constituents, she voted FOR censure on the floor! I wrote and chastised her for her failure to hold Schiff to account in the committee vote. She wrote back to me that she was against the committee vote because she “felt the punishment originally suggested was too extreme”.

Unless they called for a public beheading, then whatever the GOP-e was asking for was a slap on the wrist, in my humble opinion! Adam Schiff LIED, BOLD-FACED LIES, about Trump and Russian collusion - PERIOD! He purposefully ignored OBVIOUS proof that the charges were lies and then he lied some more!

If that does not warrant removal from office, not just a simple slap on the wrist censure, then almost NOTHING warrants removal from office!

Personally, I think he should be hanging from a noose on the National Mall, along with many other Democrats, republicans (including Liz Cheney and several others), and various enemedia personnel!
