Press Briefing by Press Secretary Jen Psaki, February 28, 2022 (cluster bombs are a war crime)
White Hut ^ | 2-28-22 | Jen Psaki

Posted on 07/07/2023 6:32:44 PM PDT by dynachrome

Q Thanks, Jen. There are reports of illegal cluster bombs and vacuum bombs being used by the Russians. If that’s true, what is the next step of this administration? And is there a red line for how much violence will be tolerated against civilians in this manner that’s illegal and potentially a war crime?

MS. PSAKI: It is — it would be. I don’t have any confirmation of that. We have seen the reports. If that were true, it would potentially be a war crime.

Obviously, there are a range of international fora that would assess that. So, certainly, we would look to that to be a part of that conversation.

The EU nations might not allow the cluster bombs to be transported on their territory or in their airspace.

EU officials might be bound by treaty to do so.

Ukraine might not get admitted into the EU if it uses such weapons.

Clinton used cluster bombs on Serbians and prior to then Serbia was a staunch American ally. I don’t recall anyone in DC or any NEWS media condemning Bubba for doing that so is it a war crime or not? .

LOL. So, if they're used to til the soil or to shake up mixed drinks, they're fine... right?

Same thing can be said for TACTICAL NUCLEAR WEAPONS. But Zelensky said Ukraine would be “careful” with their use of cluster munitions so it’s OK to give those to them.

Now if the Ukrainians would promise to be careful with any tactical nuclear weapons that Biden would give them maybe the Biden regime will give them a handful of those.

WHAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG WITH ANY OF THIS!

Russia has dropped 10,000,000 bombs on Ukraine during the past 500 days. 20,000 shells a day. Cluster bombs, fire bomb phosphorous munitions that cause horrible burn deaths, heavy 500 pound bombs, ballistic missiles, the works. Entire Ukrainian cities have been erased. Hundreds of thousands of people already dead. Unsurprisingly, those now shedding crocodile tears over Ukraine defending itself against this genocidal attack have had no complaints over Russia’s conduct the past 500 days.

Pedo-Joe has no choice but to give Zelenskyy whatever he wants.

Zelenskyy and the Ukrainians have the hard evidence on Hunter’s and Pedo-Joe’s influence peddling scheme and pretty much own Pedo-Joe.

So Pedo-Joe is happy to hand over the billions in taxpayer money and military arms that Zelenskyy extorts from him under the threat of releasing
the hard evidence that could put Hunter and Pedo-Joe behind bars for a long time.

Yeah. They’re used to maximize casualties. Those remarks were made at a time when the New Soviets were bombing purely civilian and infrastructure targets. That would’ve been a war crime. If the Ukrainian use them in situations like The Meat Grinder in Bakhmut... that’s legitimate.

Really, you guys sound like a bunch of Sore-ass liberals.

The Ukies promised to be careful with the cluster bombs, just like they are careful with their Leopard tanks, their Bradley Fighting Vehicles, their Patriot missiles, etc. Oh wait....

Says who? Neither the Russians nor the Ukrainians nor the Americans ratified the anti-cluster bomb treaty. Nor China nor India nor anybody in the Middle East (except like Bahrain and Kuwait). Nobody but the Ranger-fearing hobbits.

Don’t worry. 80,000 of them will find their way into our enemies hands for use against Americans and our allies. Think of this administration and Afghanistan.

"“POTENTIALLY” a war crime. Depends on how they are used."

...... Yup ...... Kinda gives the originator of that statement a legal way out of accusations ..... Much like using the word "Alleged" when describing a possibility of being complicit in a crime .....

.

I don’t think the US was a signatory to the cluster agreement. We have a lot of cluster munitions. But was Ukraine a signatory???

Using them isn’t a war crime, targeting civilians deliberately is.

The question—”is there a red line for how much violence will be tolerated against civilians in this manner that’s illegal and potentially a war crime?”

MS. PSAKI: It is — it would be. I don’t have any confirmation of that. We have seen the reports. If that were true, it would potentially be a war crime.

“The cluster munition attack with the highest known civilian casualties occurred on April 8, 2022, when Russia launched a Tochka-U ballistic missile equipped with a cluster munition warhead at a crowded train station in the eastern city of Kramatorsk as hundreds of people were trying to leave the area. A detailed Human Rights Watch investigation found that the attack killed at least 58 civilians and injured over 100 others.
