Lin Wood, attorney who challenged Trump's 2020 election loss, gives up law license

Attorney Lin Wood, who filed legal challenges seeking to overturn Donald Trump's 2020 election loss, is relinquishing his law license, electing to retire from practicing rather than face possible disbarment. Multiple states have weighed disciplining him for pushing Trump's continued false claims that he defeated Joe Biden.

On Tuesday, Wood asked officials in his home state of Georgia to "retire" his law license in light of "disciplinary proceedings pending against me." In the request, made in a letter and posted on his Telegram account, Wood acknowledges that he is "prohibited from practicing law in this state and in any other state or jurisdiction and that I may not reapply for admission."

Wood, a licensed attorney in Georgia since 1977, did not immediately respond to an email Wednesday seeking comment on the letter. A listing on the website for the State Bar of Georgia accessed on Wednesday showed him as retired and with no disciplinary infractions on his record.

In the wake of the 2020 election, Trump praised Wood as doing a "good job" filing legal challenges seeking to overturn his loss, though Trump's campaign at times distanced itself from him. Dozens of lawsuits making such allegations were rejected by the courts across the country.

Officials in Georgia had been weighing whether to disbar Wood over his efforts, holding a disciplinary trial earlier this year. Wood sued the state bar in 2022, claiming the bar's request that he undergo a mental health evaluation as part of its probe violated his constitutional rights, but a federal appeals court tossed that ruling, saying Wood failed to show there was "bad faith" behind the request.

In 2021, the Georgia secretary of state's office opened an investigation into where Wood had been living when he voted early in person in the 2020 general election, prompted by Wood's announcement on Telegram that he had moved to South Carolina. Officials ruled that Wood did not violate Georgia election laws.

Wood, who purchased three former plantations totaling more than $16 million, moved to South Carolina several years ago, and unsuccessfully ran for chairman of that state's GOP in 2021.

In May, a Michigan watchdog group filed a complaint against Wood and eight other Trump-aligned lawyers alleging they had committed misconduct and should be disciplined for filing a lawsuit challenging Mr. Biden's 2020 election win in that state. A court previously found the attorneys' lawsuit had abused the court system.

Wood, whose name was on the 2020 Michigan lawsuit, has insisted that the only role he played was telling fellow attorney Sidney Powell he was available if she needed a seasoned litigator. Powell defended the lawsuit and said lawyers sometimes have to raise what she called "unpopular issues."

Other attorneys affiliated with efforts to keep Trump in power following his 2020 election loss have faced similar challenges. Attorney John Eastman, architect of that strategy, faces 11 disciplinary charges in the State Bar Court of California stemming from his development of a dubious legal strategy aimed at having then-Vice President Mike Pence interfere with the certification of Mr. Biden's victory.

Was he a nut case when he successfully saved Richard Jewell from being railroaded by the FBI for a crime he didn’t commit?

Or only after that?

Questions about the 2020 elections has evolved into extreme actions by the Cancel Culture. Those during January 6th, ‘21, were hit with prosecutions without trial and no date given for trial while left to rot in jail. Now it is outright Soviet-style banishment from any means to make a living.

Along with Sydney Powell, Lin Wood did a great disservice to the legitimate evidence of fraud in the 2020 election by making shocking claims that they could not back up.

Lin Wood was also was a crack pot publicity hungry shyster attorney for Rittenhouse before Rittenhouse thankfully finally got better representation.

Wood is now one of a handful of crazy people that the Left loves to try to hold up as an example of how crazy people that disagree with their absurd claim that the 2020 election was not plagued with fraud.

You are now punished for telling the truth.

Yes. And we have people here, on this forum, who are too ideologically driven or too dimwitted to understand this.

It isn’t just lawfare directed at anyone around Trump or who worked with Trump, it is also brought to bear on any lawyer who has the inclination to help.

It is clearly demonstrated that they wish to poison any well of legal counsel Trump might draw from by making it clear that certain law firms won’t hire them, and certain media jobs or interviews will not be forthcoming.

But hey. As long as it is Trump that suffers, it is all good. Many of these people would be the ones whining the loudest if the organs of government were applied to them as political enemies.

But I suspect THAT won’t happen to those same people, since they have to be an enemy of the Deep State to attract that kind of unwanted attention.

His one case went to SCOTUS but met the same fate as the other cases brought by various attorneys regarding the 2020 election. Only a handful of cases were heard on the merits. Of the 30 that were heard on merits, Trump prevailed in 22 of them.
https://election-integrity.info/2020_Election_Cases.htm

His lawsuit, in case you were unaware, was that it was illegal for the SOS Raffensperger to change election procedures (which happened in a 2020 lawsuit settlement with democrats) - because only GA legislature can change election law. It was a legitimate case and he had standing as a GA voter.

What people should be asking is why were few of these cases heard. And why were so many attorneys targeted by the left for even bringing lawsuits. Wood is not the only one they targeted.

I sardonic, not mean. But I laugh at the people Trump screws over. The list is long. It a wonder the guy can get an attorney these days.

It just burns me up

I find that this unmasks the people who claim to be conservative, yet show themselves to be just as intellectually corrupt as any Leftist when confronted with evidence of government weaponization.

As long as it is happening to “the right people” it is all good.

He and Powell are the scapegoats for the never Trumpers. There are a lot of comments on here about Trump’s judgement, yet they never say anything concerning his trust. He came into a game, that even he himself says, he didn’t realize how bad and corrupt things are (paraphrased). So he trusted the judgement of the so called Republicans around him. Do you think he will make that same mistake next time?

Vermont bull crap.

You're living in a Never Trump, uniparty, Big Media fantasy world. Linn never worked for Trump. Linn wanted to work for Trump. Trump rejected Wood.

Probably afterwards, Lin Wood represented the parents of Jonbenet Ramsey in a lawsuit they filed and won a huge settlement.

Lin Wood proceeded to represent Nick Sandman and Kyle Rittenhouse in their cases and was fired from each one, basically for the same reason, not really representing his client but trying to cash in on a very public case.

The same thing happened in the Trump election lawsuits, he got involved in a huge public case, made all sorts of crazy accusations along with Sydney Powell and is now paying the price.

He has tremendous wealth and doesn’t need to practice law anymore; in the end he was the epitome of an ambulance chasing two bit lawyer.

It’s the UniParty. And people who preferred pre-2016 Repubs to Trump.

Their major priorities are “free” trade, open borders, neocon wars and hedge fund economics.

At this point they get more of that from Democrats than Trump.

He has won some huge cases, but he and Sidney Powell won ZERO election cases, in fact I don’t think any lawsuit challenging the outcome of an election anywhere in the USA has been won.

At some point you would think people would start to understand these cases can’t be won, if you want to cut back or eliminate the cheating you have to win elections first, the courts are not going to work,

That is because you are no conservative.

A real conservative would not support this, in the same way we wouldn’t support Leftists being deprived of their right to keep and bear arms, even though the case may be easily made that the left has far more mass murderers on their side.

Regardless of what you think of Trump or his attorneys, approving of this as you do shows you to be just as intellectually corrupt as those who foster this weaponization of the government, media, and legal system against their enemies.
