Human society is shifting the tilt of the Earth
The Hill ^ | 6/30/2023 | By Saul Elbein

Humans pumped so much groundwater out of the Earth that the planet has begun to wobble detectably on its axis, a new study has found.

On its own terms, the magnitude of the new wobble is slight — a matter of millimeters, which puts it in the same approximate speed category as Earth’s slowly drifting continents.

But the findings published earlier this month in Geophysical Research Letters show the extent to which human action — in the form of dam construction, groundwater drilling and the burning of fossil fuels — are impacting the very position of the Earth.

They also provide powerful corroboration for something scientists had long suspected but had remained unproven: the staggering depletion of the world’s groundwater reserves over the past several decades.

The scope of the findings released this month were startling. Between 1993 and 2010, the scientists found, human society — and mostly human agriculture — had depleted 2,510 gigatons of water.

That’s the equivalent of 600 cubic miles of lost freshwater, more than five times the volume of Lake Erie or half the volume of Lake Huron.

At that rate, we would run through the equivalent of the 2,900 cubic miles of water that fill Lake Superior by the end of the century.

That groundwater doesn’t go through the water cycle I guess.

The earth’s rotation has always wobbled. I worked at a radio telescope site in Greenbank WV. One is dedicated to keeping time for the Navy because the part wobbles.

Total BS! Ground water is not causing any change in the obliquity of the ecliptic..

The earth “wobbles” on its axis. Over time, in years, it fluctuates in small degrees, not more than two or three in total. The average is 23.5 degrees +or- 1.5.

Stop trying to scare us. “Settled Science,” is nothing but BS.

Covid-19 was a flu, manufactured with US help, that killed “millions of people” because the death count included hundreds of thousands of people who died from other causes.

Because the EARTH wobbles.

I knew the ad hominen attacks would flow like…like oil out if the ground.

The earth is big, yes you are right. So the atmosphere is equally big right? Nope the air is so thin well under k2 you will die. Just takes a while. So the breathable atmosphere is basically likened to the paint on a basketball…it’s that thin.

We have been pumping CO2 into it since the Industrial Revolution. Now just OIL ALONE today is 96,000,000 barrels per day. A barrel holds 300 pounds of oil. That’s 29 BILLION pounds of oil turning into CO2, much of it at least.

That’s not counting coal 3,100 cubic feet per day PER PERSON burned, natural gas etc. and natural process.

Yet yes keep insulting people that think we might either cause some global warming or add to any global warming caused by natural process.

You understand betting? There have been about 500 generations of humans since the last warming period that caused the ice ages to leave. Don’t you think it’s just a little tiny coincidence that the next global warming episode coincided with massive increases in CO2.

Finally I’m old enough to know what I’ve seen unlike many young pups here. I remember skating on frozen ponds in Kentucky routinely, I remember people walking cross the Ohio in 1977 on ice. It’s not like that anymore.

Science does not say the opposite.

PS
I’m sure you also deny insect, amphibian, bird, amphibian, reptile losses etc. and think we have zero impact on the environment?

It was warmer then now:

1. During the Minoan-Mesopotamian Warming Period!
Bronze age collapse roughly 1177 BC

2. During the Classical (Usually called Roman) Warming Period!
Dark Age collapse! 536 AD called the worse time to be alive!

3. During the Medieval Warming Period.
The came the Little Ice Age roughly 1300 -1850 AD

We’ve be warming up ever since so far, we are mimicking the Medieval Warming Period.

Mann had to suppress those warming periods and did, or his narrative falls apart.

Also, all those periods have written records by witnesses who were alive and there. Describing what was going on. In these cases, it’s not just estimates from instrumentation measurements.

Or maybe the Russians.

Curious if you have any opinion on the following graphs...

I am a conservationist. I believe in preserving the earth and it's natural resources for the betterment of human life for as long as possible.

However, AGW is complete bullshit.

Genesis 2:15. Humans are commanded to care for God’s creation.

Actually, Genesis 2:15 says “The LORD God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to till it and keep it.” NASB
“And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.” KJV
“Keep it”, and every other iteration of the verse, means to watch over it, in the Hebrew.
But He also said, “While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.” Gen 8:22 KJV
So you can relax; this world isn’t going anywhere til God causes it to be burned up, and a new Heaven and a new earth come about. And nothing man can or cannot do, can prevent Him from carrying out that plan. (See the Book of Revelation)

Let’s go back to being hunter/gatherers. I just wonder how long it will take before the city folk become cannibals.

Don't know what these people think happens to the water. Much is pumped to water plants, as in farms, gardens etc. Then it soaks back into the ground, heading for the water table. Even if it's lost in evaporation, it just returns as rain.
I guess the think it's trucked to China or blasted off-planet into the sun.

Uh. Try again.

Genesis 2:15 NASBS
Then the LORD God took the man and put him into the garden of Eden to cultivate it and keep it.

It’s the accumulated weight of over 100 years of National Geographics that is throwing the Earth off its axis.
