Just hours after the Supreme Court struck down the president's student loan forgiveness plan, the White House came back on Friday with several avenues to support borrowers.
The Biden administration is seeking to provide debt relief under the Higher Education Act of 1965 and has initiated that regulatory process…
The Education Secretary on Friday initiated a rule-making process in an effort to open "an alternative path to debt relief for as many working and middle-class borrowers as possible" under the authority provided by the Higher Education Act, according to a White House factsheet.
The Education Department on Friday issued a notice that announced a virtual public hearing on July 18 and asks for written comments from stakeholders. After the hearing, the department will finalize the issues that need to be addressed and hold negotiated rule-making sessions this fall.
The White House factsheet did not make clear if the Biden administration is pursuing the same forgiveness plan parameters that the court struck down…
The White House press office did not immediately respond to an email to clarify the debt relief parameters it was pursuing under the Higher Education Act.
The administration also unveiled a plan to help borrowers when they restart their paused payments in October. For 12 months, borrowers won't be penalized for late, missed, or partial payments. Borrowers don't have to take any action to qualify for the program...

The GOP House has the power of the purse, but they won’t use it with the Department of Education. They won’t even mention the idea. Instead, McCarthy will have a C.R. in September and an Omnibus on Christmas Eve. Just more of the same until America is destroyed. Republicans are just as much at fault.
Interesting HOW FAST they moved out...almost like they knew the ruling in advance.
All the more reason to kill the Dep of Ed along with all its funding authority. The states are finally learning they do not need a federal dep of ed.

Former New York state Democrat Sen. Alessandra Biaggi took to social media Friday to discuss the pricey student loans she had amassed during law school, despite purchasing a $1.14 million home last summer.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis almost quadrupled his net worth in a year, thanks to a seven-figure payday from his bestselling memoir, “The Courage to be Free.”
The 2024 candidate’s net worth as of December 31, 2022, was $1,174,331, according to documents he filed to the Florida Commission on Ethics ahead of a July 1 deadline. A year earlier, DeSantis’ net worth was nearly $319,000. The lift in salary was largely thanks to a $1.25 million book advance DeSantis got from Broadside Books, the conservative arm of HarperCollins Publishing that is owned by Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp.
Since filing his last financial disclosure, DeSantis lowered the amount he owes on his student loans slightly, from $21,284.92 to $18,628.66. The governor’s financial disclosure became public on Friday evening, the same day that the Supreme Court struck down President Joe Biden’s student loan forgiveness program.
