DeSantis Allies Say They Blunted Trump’s Post-Indictment Surge
Real Clear Politics ^ | 6/30/2023 | Philip Wegmam

On the eve of the first indictment, the night before the former president flew to Manhattan to be fingerprinted and arraigned, Donald Trump’s pollster told RealClearPolitics a paradox: Historic legal trouble would “really help us in the primary.” At least, the pollster added, “in the short term.”

Allies of Ron DeSantis expected as much.

Top officials with a group supporting the Florida governor’s campaign, a super PAC called Never Back Down, started a real-time experiment to quantify the fallout from the indictment while testing their ability to conserve DeSantis’ support, maintain his positive image, and reach new voters.

Among those who will actually end up voting next year, they believe their messaging surge worked. An internal poll of a head-to-head race in Iowa, conducted at the end of May, shows Trump and DeSantis running roughly even at 45% and 43% among likely voters.

Never Back Down used Georgia, where the governor’s support may be strongest, as a control case, running no new ads in that market and then comparing the Peach State to the first four primary and caucus states where they surged resources. RealClearPolitics obtained the results comparing Georgia and Iowa the group used as metrics to measure their approach.

In Georgia, DeSantis experienced a net loss of nine points. In Iowa, where Never Back Down surged political ads, he experienced a net gain of four points. In a head-to-head matchup between the governor and the former president between March 13 and May 8, Trump’s margin over DeSantis in Georgia grew to 18 points. In Iowa, at the same time, it widened to only 10 points.

“The difference between these tells us that the ad treatment had an eight-point impact on the difference between DeSantis and Trump,” an internal polling memo prepared by pollster Chris Wilson announced.

Maybe on paper, with the help of the MSM’s “polls”. But not in reality. As of now.

This article is full of S-it.
Everyone and their grandmother was talking about how this was going to destroy Trumps base.
When that failed to happen, those pulling the leavers and switches were stunned.
Now they try and tell us they expected Trump to get a boost???
Like I said... Bullshit!

Head to head with Trump? Keep polling a race that doesn’t exists. Are we up to 10 people no? Each of them pulls more and more support away from Desanctimonius. Chris Creme has had a bigger impact on the race than Desanctimonius. He’s pulled 3-5% from Desanctimonius is NH. Also, Hailey and Scott are running strong in SC but not st the expense of Trump. I would love to see this fool gone, out of the race after he starts running 5th.

At this point, in 2015, Trump was also ahead of the pack, but closer to 30%, not the 55% he’s at now. And I remember people here saying back then that Trump wouldn’t win the Primary because 70% of Republicans were against him.

Oh well, once the other candidates were shown to be from the Bush Clan (or close enough to it in spirit), that was end of the 70%, and Trump took the nomination.

Same situation this time, except Trump is nearly at twice the level of support this early. I suspect that’s because most Republicans know that Trump is NOT a Democrat in Drag, as they were worried about in 2015. So, this time, it’s closer to Trump polling as a popular INCUMBENT (at least with Republican voters), which means the rest of the pack is just a sideshow, regardless of how hard the media tries to prevent it.

DeSantis is not going to do well if his major emphasis becomes “i’m not Trump”. There are a gaggle of those; if he were smarter, he would emphasize only his own attributes, as should any other candidates.

Tell me about yourself, and and ask for my vote. That’s different from saying “Vote for me because I’m not the other guy.”

And where’s the MAGA in that claim? Desantis allies cut off nose despite face.

Bet they’re real proud of themselves.

They only have the ENTIRE Oligarchy helping them prevent ONE man from gaining the Republican nomination (just like 2016).

They’ll fail of course, spectacularly. But it’s fun to watch.

-> DeSantis is not going to do well if his major emphasis becomes “i’m not Trump”.

• GOPe lane is crowded with clown cars - more every day

• Globalist lane is mainly DeSanctus - race car sponsored by Bush network, Koch bros, and a big Pharma company selling a Low-T drug product

• MAGA lane is extra wide and Trump is driving a semi down the middle

Lots of laps left.

So how dow all you DeSantis supporters like this knowing it’s all out in plain view now - DeSellout is jus another tool of the Ryan, Bush, Kinzinger, Cheney, Romney apparatus whose only purpose is to discredit, diminish, and defeat the GOP candidate being Donald Trump.

You guys do not look deep enough.

The ending of the article — about the “experiment” profiling polling results vs advertising buy.

That is about NOTHING more than attempting to prove the value of Swamp activities, which is what campaign staff represent.

Nothing hurts the Swamp more than an incumbent president who does not face opposition in primaries. NOBODY GETS HIRED TO WORK ON CAMPAIGNS. Those Democrat Swamp people need that on their resume. Any sort of elevation in a presidential campaign can lead to much more elevation at Senate campaigns and House campaigns.

This is the substance of the GOPe. It’s all about getting paid. It’s not about principle AT ALL.

These GOPe Swamp people will not have their candidates drop out — because money is going to keep coming in. Trump will win the primaries and the nomination, and select a VP nominee, and these others STILL won’t drop out. The GOPe will still find ways to flow money to their staffs.

The theory will be Trump will be put in jail and not be allowed to serve as president even with an election win, so these others must be ready.

I will say I do not think DeSantis hates him all that much. He’s being dragged along by the GOPe behind-the-scenes people and his own staff, who want paychecks to keep flowing.

Not Trump until he parrots Trump's winning policies.

IOW a lying fraud.
