The case for DeSantis over Trump
The Washington Times ^ | June 24, 2023 | Michael McKenna

Posted on 06/24/2023 6:29:35 PM PDT by TBP

the Trump campaign needs to be aware of an emerging thread of data that suggests that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis may do better in the general election.

New survey results from Public Opinion Strategies build on previous results and are starting to frame a coherent story about how the general election might look with different Republican candidates.

The new survey results indicate that Mr. DeSantis would do better than Mr. Trump in the general election in specific battleground states. For example, in Georgia, Mr. DeSantis leads President Biden by 3 percentage points in a general election matchup.

In the same matchup, Mr. Trump loses Georgia to Mr. Biden by 3 points.

In Pennsylvania, Mr. DeSantis runs 2 points better than Mr. Biden while Mr. Trump runs 4 points behind Mr. Biden.

Back in April, Mr. Trump trailed Mr. Biden in Pennsylvania by the same 4 percentage points. Mr. DeSantis led Mr. Biden in Pennsylvania by 3 points.

In Arizona, the current spread between the candidates appears greater. Mr. DeSantis runs 6 points better than Mr. Biden while Mr. Trump runs 3 points behind the president. That is also a greater margin than was evident in polling done in April.

Those results indicated that Mr. DeSantis would defeat Mr. Biden nationally by 3 percentage points while Mr. Trump would lose nationally by 3 percentage points — the same margin by which he lost in 2020.

Lurching to the left? Hmmm. What’s this lurch to the left you speak of?

Trump supports an assault weapons ban.

Trump supports federal protection of abortion

Trump supports Biden's Respect for Marriage Act

You’re so funny. The things you pull out of your ass are about as serious as the little square that floats to the top of an Eight Ball.

Besides the fact that all the points you raise refer to social issues and not the elite, globalist character of the GOP that I referred to, your claims are simply untrue. Trump supports an assault weapons ban, federal protection of abortion and the Respect for Marriage Act? Give me a break.

How the hell can Desanctis win anything without Trump’s base voting for him in the general? Or any other Republican?

People who write this stuff are absolutely delusional.

But remember, they will not let Trump have a second term.

If DeSantis doesn’t get out of Trump’s way so this country can undo the Biden evil there will be no place for him in 2028.

TRUMP!

Trump is the outsider of the Republican party who has been leading a takeover of the Republican party for 8 years. It’s a process that doesn’t happen over night and there are still a number of old establishment types who wield considerable power in the party, although there has been an encouraging new crop of young MAGA supporters who have started to have an impact (e.g. MTG, Boebert, Crane, Vance, Luna, etc.

Trump’s strategy has been to target the worst of the worst for replacement while trying to find common ground with the rest. McCarthy has led the House GOP caucus since Paul Ryan left. McCarthy was next in line and moved up to take Ryan’s place. That was a House decision, not Trump’s.

Trump and McCarthy had a good working relationship in the second half of Trump’s first term, and he was a definite improvement over Ryan during that period. Trump’s endorsement of McCarthy for speaker was a function of the fact that McCarthy had shown a willingness to work with Trump and support his policies while Trump was President, as well as an acknowledgement that the younger crop of MAGA supporters still didn’t have enough clout to put one of their own in power. As far as McDaniel, there was likely a similar calculation at play.

Its funny they say this because the polls I’ve seen.....ie the ones that have consistently been the most reliable going back 4 cycles at least....all show that Trump is a much better candidate than DeSantis in the swing states.

I really wonder about these polls saying the opposite. It seems awfully strange that DeSantis would be ahead in them despite being 40 points down in the Republican primary.

The parties’ conventions aren’t for a year yet and already they have rolled out this “case for DeSantis over Trump”? It almost sounds like a “settled science”...Come on, man!

“And what do you mean by “3-way”?

Did we always have real 3rd party candidates??”

There are always third party candidates, but there are some elections where a 3rd party candidate actually has influence.

The last one would have been Ross Perot.

Use the standard where a third party candidate got more than 5% of the vote if you want a limit.

Before that, you have to go back to Ronald Reagans first election, where Andersen grabbing 6% of the vote.

Before that 1972, Wallace grabbed 13.5% of the vote.

Trump wins nomination and general the same as in 2016. To say nothing has changed is foolish.
Youngkin won because he showed flooding the polls with Republican watchers kills Democrat/communist voter fraud enough to win.
The rodents had two years to straighten out their voter fraud problems and sat on their ashes.
The first year they spent patting themselves on the back at having stolen the White House. By the time they turned their attention to stealing the 2022 election it was too late.
Lake will easily win a recall in Arizona and that means with the addition of Virginia Trump can win without Pennsylvania and or Wisconsin. Basically it comes down to steer around the RNC’s sabotage and beat the voter fraud where we need to fight and Trump wins easily.
We don’t want DeSantis now and maybe at all. He has already taken $60 million from Hal “Credit Sussie” Lambert who would not have given him a dime if DeSantis hadn’t already sold out to the globalist rinos.

He never said tariffs on Chinese goods were a bad idea. The blogger Sundance said he did, hardly an objective source, but if you actually go to the speech DeSantis said that Trump’s tariffs were ineffective. Since Biden was ok with leaving Trump’s tariffs in place, they can’t be that onerous. Yes, Biden kept Trump’s tariffs in place. They are still in place. And they are ineffective.
