Said since they had sound devises(not familiar with proper terminology) did not hear any implosion. Middle of North Atlantic with no sounding devices? Guess they have to cover for national security secrets.
I would imagine numerous submarines heard it. The P8/P3’s that were dropping sonobuoys were likely dropping them after the event.

Those devices have been there since at least the 60’s if not the 50’s...............Not necessarily the same ones, mind you, as they do wear out from time to time.
But that’s how they knew the USS Scorpion had imploded in 1968!....................
... pretty sure the Navy or whomever listens to the vast array of hydrophones that criss-cross the oceans knows exactly when the implosion happened. Good luck getting that info out of them however.
You do know that when Ballard found the Titanic it was actually a mission to locate a lost (USA?) sub. The Titanic was a bonus.
