Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis slighted former President Donald Trump’s Supreme Court picks Monday, saying they came up short of what DeSantis called the “gold standard” set by two of the court’s other conservative justices.
When asked by radio host Hugh Hewitt if he would “pledge to the Republicans as you go around the country that your judges will be like the Trump judges,” the 44-year-old DeSantis responded: “Well, actually, I would say we’ll do better than that.
“I respect the three appointees he did, but none of those three are at the same level of Justice [Clarence] Thomas and Justice [Samuel] Alito,” DeSantis said of Justices Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett. “I think they [Alito and Thomas] are the gold standard.”
DeSantis went on to vow that if he is elected next year, his nominations for the high court “will be along the lines of a Sam Alito and a Clarence Thomas.”
“I inherited a very liberal state supreme court, maybe the most liberal in the country, very activist. But I was able to replace three of the four liberals my first month in office,” DeSantis said of his work as governor. “We have a really good track record on doing that. And in fact, two of my supreme court picks [Barbara Lagoa and Robert J. Luck] in my first year of office were elevated to the 11th Circuit by President Donald Trump.”

“Obviously we are going to shut down the border … Two, we are going to repeal Biden’s disastrous economic policies, his Green New Deal. And we are going to have things that are going to help jump-start this economy.” ***

Trump did that.
DeSantis may want to take the 'L' on this line of reasoning.
Maybe no one told him about ROE V WADE being overturned....BY TRUMP’S PICKS....
Thanks for the belly laugh. I burst out laughing for a minute and a half.
There have been some complaints on Free Republic, that some Freepers think Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, and Coney Barrett are too liberal. So there you go.
Try getting past the Senate roadblocks
They failed us on election fraud and vaccine mandates
HA HA HA HA
king duh santis thinks he controls senate comfirmation?
idiot desantis......
The senate comfirmation was one of the problem Trump had to deal with, which is why he did his list of possible candidates.
But king dee santis thinks he can just get what he wants....
Well, I guess if the puppet master mcconnell tells da santis who to pick, I guess the persone will be selected.
Yes, but Scalia is no longer with us. President Trump filled that seat with Justice Gorsuch.
This is a typical distortion. What he said was that he likes all of President Trump’s Supreme Court picks, but the best justices are Thomas and Alito. Anyone want to argue that?
If I remember, the runner-up for Barrett’s seat was a judge from Florida.
Love you Ron, but you are getting terrible advice.
They all lie to get elected.
Trump’s supreme court justices were off of a list compiled by the Federalist Society....
So now, duh santis supporters are saying the Federalist Society is too liberal....
Murdoch publication. Ignore.
“but the best justices are Thomas and Alito. Anyone want to argue that?”
To get a Thomas, we had to take a Souter.
To get an Alito, we had to take a Roberts.
To get a Scalia, we had to take an O’Connor AND a Tony Kennedy.
In other words, for every hero, we had to take one or two zeros.
I get RDS’ point that Gorsuch/Kav/Barrett don’t rise to superstar level, but by virtue of avoiding the appointment of one or more stealth liberals, Trump absolutely blows away the Bushes, Reagan, Nixon and Eisenhower on this issue.
Well, he’s basically right, but still, the 3 Trump put up are actually pretty good.
Desantis, just how many picks do you think you will have if you are elected in 2024???
Clarence Thomas is the oldest at 74, followed by Samuel Alito, who is 72. Sonia Sotomayor is 68, Chief Justice John Roberts is 67, Elena Kagan is 62, Brett Kavanaugh is 57, Neil Gorsuch is 54, Ketanji Brown Jackson is 51 and Amy Coney Barrett is 50.
Names please...otherwise shut up
Good point. Though I don’t consider Roberts a total disaster. Just not as good as he could’ve been.
