This One MLB Team (The Texas Rangers) will not Host an ‘LGBT Night’ for Pride Month

To celebrate Pride Month, most teams in Major League Baseball have scheduled a “Pride Night” to celebrate the LGBT community. However, this year, the Texas Rangers will be the only MLB team to not host a Pride Night for its fans.

MLB’s practice of holding “Pride Nights” began in 2001 when the Chicago Cubs were the first team to schedule such an event. Since then, every team has adopted a similar event at their ballpark. It appears that the Rangers have no regard for this practice. While the team has themed nights on schedule to celebrate things such as Star Wars and Whataburger, they have no interest in hosting a “Pride Night” for their fans.

In a statement to HuffPost, the Texas Rangers stated that they are committed to make all fans feel welcome and included at Rangers games. The team did not, however, give a reason as to why they are not specifically hosting a “Pride Night” like the other 29 MLB teams.

“Our commitment is to make everyone feel welcome and included in Rangers baseball. That means in our ballpark, at every game, and in all we do — for both our fans and our employees. We deliver on that promise across our many programs to have a positive impact across our entire community.”

Because the team is based in Texas, a large portion of Ranger fans have traditional values when it comes to social issues. As companies like Bud Light, Target, and Disney have angered their conservative consumers in recent days by endorsing radical social issues, these companies have been subject to nationwide boycotts that have significantly hurt their profit margins.

Recently, the Los Angeles Dodgers faced severe backlash for their decision to invite a controversial LGBT group to attend their “pride night” on June 16. The group, The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, is comprised of men dressed as drag queens in nun outfits. The group is known for their rejection of traditional values and their mockery of Christianity. Amid a series of boycotts from conservative consumers across the country, the Dodgers attempted to make amends with their Christian fans by also announcing a “Christian Faith and Family Day” that will take place in July.

The Rangers were playing the Rays today on the latter’s Pride “celebration.” The Rangers are the #2 team in MLB, the Rays #1. I’ve been a Rays fan for a generation, but today I was glad the Rangers won; they deserved it.

This is getting rediculious. Deep down I'm a libertarian and I don't care who shacks up with who as long as they are at or above the age of consent. I have LGBTQ friends and family members' and I wish them well and no harm comes to them, I would even defend them from harm. However, where I really care is when you try to force it in the limelight 24/7 and onto the children as well, especially allowing transsexual modification for minors, that is wrong, super wrong.

I can understand the point is where if someone is different, even way different, people should be taught not to harrass, pick on or bully them, No one should be bullied, black to white, rich to poor, gay or straight, etc., but I think we are going much way beyond teaching basic tolerance to where it is in view all the time. I know this is the agenda of some of the people behind this and we do need to take it to task. Tolerance yes, but in your face, no.

I miss the days I just want ot go watch a game of any sport without politics behind it, sans the Olympics of course. Whatever happen to the day when people just went to a ballgame just to unwind and have fun, forget the world's troubles. I remember back in 1980, I was 13/14 and going to a Pittsburgh Pirates game was fun, made me forget the troubles of the world like the declining steel industry, hostages in Iran and the USSR in Afghanistan and to focus on the Pirates to hopefully make it to the World series again (unsuccessfully) with the likes of Omar Moreno, Kent Tekulve, Burt Bylevin, Dave Park and Willie Stargell to name a few.

I miss that world of the 1970's and 1980's.
