A central Oregon county scheduled an election to test support for becoming part of Idaho on Wednesday morning, less than 24 hours after final results from a May election in an eastern Oregon county showed a victory for supporters of the “Greater Idaho” movement.
The razor-thin vote in Wallowa County means that 12 Oregon counties have voted to move toward a long-shot effort to redraw the state’s boundary with Idaho that would turn close to 400,000 Oregonians into Idahoans and give the Gem State control of almost two-thirds of Oregon’s land. The next to vote is Crook County, after the county court voted Wednesday morning to send a question to the May 2024 ballot asking whether county officials should advocate for moving the state border.
None of the measures approved by eastern Oregon voters will actually change the boundary – nor could they. That would take action from both state legislatures and the U.S. Congress. Instead, voters have directed their county officials to regularly discuss changing state borders or lobby state and federal officials.

I swear to God I’ll move there if this happens....I hate being in a blue state even though my area is nice enough.
That’s nice and all, but Salem has to approve it, and as we’ve learned throughout history, socialists/communists refuse to let people escape without a fight. So this whole notion is as dead as fried chicken.
1/100th of the state controls the entire state.
Don’t they want to get rid of those far-right, MAGA, terrorists in the east? It would permanently guarantee a Democratic veto-proof super majority in the state house. (Just guessing there)
It needs to include Eastern Washington. Our economic and social condition is the same as Idaho and has nothing to do with the coastal county’s.
Believe it or not, with 2/3rds of the state wanting to leave, I can assume their representatives in salem would be enough to pass it.
Its the us congress that won’t touch it.
“socialists/communists refuse to let people escape without a fight”
The perverts have the same attitude—they can’t let any children escape their clutches.
No, they like things the way they are - they get anything they want politically and get to tax the hell out of anyone who disagrees. It's fun to make God-fearing dirt farmers pay for the Drag Queen Story Hours they detest.
I would immediately lose my $3,000 property tax exemption if my county became part of Idaho. And would have to start paying state income tax in a couple years. Other than that, I’d be all for it (although recent articles have shown wokeism and leftism infesting Idaho just like everywhere else).
And their mascot is a flying pig.
Only by land area. The Legislature has proportional representation. Of the state’,s 4.24
Million population, 2.2 million live in the Portland metropolitan area.
I don’t know about you but I live in Eastern Wa and I like not paying state taxes.
I’d be VERY tempted to move there as well if this came to fruition.
All the social Marxists in the valley would be getting rid of the senators from middle and eastern Oregon that refuse to attend legislative sessions.
Oh you pay state taxes bigly. We are ranked in the top 5 for overall state taxes. I don't want to pay state income taxes either but to cast off the yoke of Olympia it might be worth it. Sales and sin taxes are lower which is why I buy my boos and other stuff in ID.
Its just a matter of time before Olympia amends the state constitution and enacts an income tax. We don't want to be trapped behind enemy lines.
But it would also strip down the size of the state, and possibly cause them to lose representation in the US house.
And lessen the amount of tax revenue they reap from that 9% state income tax, which would lower the levels on the slush funds that they use to pay their friends, err, I mean to pay for social programs.
You would assume that! But I wouldn’t guarantee that their state reps would vote that way when push came to shove.
I wish there was a constitutional way for counties to quit the state there are part of, minus the state legislators in a “losing” state. I wish without the consent of the losing state, a county or group of counties, could leave a state and either form a new state or joing an existing staste, with agreement in that existing state. I am sure right now it would take a constitutional amdendment, and that is a high hurdle to cross, to get enough votes in Congress and agreement with enough states.
