OTTAWA, June 6 (Reuters) - Authorities in New York, Toronto and Ottawa on Tuesday warned residents about the health risks from air polluted by smoke from unprecedented early summer wildfires in eastern Canada.
An unusually early and intense start to wildfire season has set Canada on track for its worst-ever year as warm and dry conditions are forecast to persist for months.
There are blazes in nearly all of Canada's 10 provinces and territories, with Quebec the worst impacted due to multiple fires caused by lightning.
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation issued a health advisory for counties including New York, Bronx, and Queens.
The state recommended residents consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects.
The Canadian capital of Ottawa, which neighbors Quebec, was covered in haze on Tuesday morning, with air quality in category 10+, the worst level on Environment Canada's Air Quality Health Index, indicating "very high risk".

I never knew who did that. Nice.
Then there is this.

It’s been quite clear in Western Montana and North Idaho lately after the initial smoke from the Alberta fires passed. Right now I’m sitting on the patio on a delightful evening. There’s a golden orange glow in the clouds over the eastern mountains right now at dusk. They look like high clouds. Fingers are all crossed here in North Idaho that we get spared smoke this summer!
I am also in CT—it is not pleasant—it seems like you can actually smell that the air is “off”.
It was pretty bad here in Connecticut yesterday.
My brother sent a pic of the skies over the family farm south of Buffalo near the PA border. The fires are doing interesting things with sunsets. He also said a strong smell of fire is in the air.
It’s RED in northcentral PA, for whatever that’s worth.
It has really drifted south.
Charlotte had minimal sun today. It is what happens when major fires burn and the currents get hold of it.
Nice and cool though. Lots of yard work done. High of 72 I would say.
