October 2022 ---Russia threatens hundreds of thousands of people by mining dam at the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant, Zelenskyy warns

Ukrainian leader says 80 settlements — including Kherson — could be hit by rapid flooding because of Russia’s planned ‘terrorist attack’.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned on Thursday of an impending “large-scale disaster” in southern Ukraine, claiming that Russia mined a dam at the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant in the south of the country.

In an address via videolink to EU leaders meeting in Brussels, Zelenskyy said that Ukraine had information showing Russia had already set charges. Should the dam be destroyed, more than 80 settlements — including the port city of Kherson — could be hit by "rapid flooding," impacting hundreds of thousands of people, he said.

“According to our information, Russia has already prepared everything to carry out this terrorist attack,” he told leaders in his remarks, calling for an international mission of observers to be sent to the Kakhovka plant. “Russia is deliberately creating the grounds for a large-scale disaster in the south of Ukraine."

The threat comes in the hotly contested south, where Ukrainian forces are clawing back territory from their Russian adversaries on the western bank of the river Dnieper.

The dire warning also follows Iranian drone strikes on Ukrainian cities, that have knocked out infrastructure and hit civilian targets. More than a third of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure has now been destroyed by Russian cruise missiles and Iranian drones, he said, meaning Ukraine can no longer export electricity.

Zelenskyy also used his address to EU leaders to plead for more air-defense systems as Kyiv tries to combat the aerial threat.

“When we have reliable protection of the sky — that is, a sufficient number and quality of air defense and missile defense systems — we will be able to guarantee a normal economic and social life in Ukraine,” he said.

Team Nordstream blows this Dam.

Then everyone who wants to widen this war argues for more weapons and $$$ for Ukraine.

Mission accomplished.

The same way they claimed that Russia blew it’s own pipeline? The way they blamed a Ukrainian missile into Poland on Russia? Even after Biden explained that the missile actually came from the Ukraine, Z kept telling anyone who would listen it was from Russia, Russia, Russia.

Given that the reservoir provides cooling water for the Zaporozha nuclear power plant and is the water supply for Crimea, it's pretty obvious this is the work of Ukraine. Larry Johnson is right. Ukraine is going full kamikaze.

"Kiev indeed considered blowing up the dam to paralyze Moscow’s forces who were defending the city of Kherson – and even “conducted a test strike with a HIMARS launcher on one of the floodgates” – a former head of Ukraine’s Operational Command South, Major General Andrey Kovalchuk, admitted in an interview with the Washington Post in December."

Sounds like an attempt to get USA and/or NATO “boots on the ground.” I told the youngsters I work with I know a dozen ways from Sunday to evade conscription if the Democrats, globalists, and neocons try to make them fight in the Ukraine war. “Hell, no! We won’t go!”

Jeez, what about all the 1-inch fish who will have their habitat destroyed by contamination from the flooding? Let’s send Gavin Newsom and his environmentalist team, they know what to do.

Better yet, send Chris Christie. He can plug the leak in the dam by sitting on it.

Prove it was the Russians, and not with Ukraine propaganda. I am not saying it wasn’t, just saying most everything called news from that region is lies and propaganda. Oh and the MSM is also worthless for any factual reporting on these events.

Absolute insanity and object propaganda to accept the Ukrainian version of this at face value.

Are Ukrainian General is even on record as publicly stating that the Ukrainians had considered taking this action before.

If Zelensky claims it, then it is most likely a LIE.

Neither side cares about the Ukrainian people....and neither does the US/NATO.

Ukrainians don’t have a franchise to decide for themselves? Maybe they fight because they don’t want to again live as a slaves in the filthy Russian World? History shows them Russia brings them only misery and mass murder. Maybe Poland and nearly all the rest of their neighbors support them because don’t want that either?

I find it ironic any conservative would treat Ukrainians exactly as Democrats treat us. We must be better than that.

One minute the Scotland Today article cites tweets that say Ukraine was shelling the dam, the next it says it was a drone.

The article also says Zaporozhzhia Region “overwhelmingly supported” annexation despite the number of Oblast residents not voting at all VASTLY outnumbering the ones who did vote.

The title of the article suggests Zelenskyy ordered the attack but doesn’t provide even an allegation to that effect, let alone a sourced quote.

A test strike six months ago, which was intended to impair the use of the bridge not to blow the dam up, proves nothing.

Russia has spent the last few weeks evacuating people out of dozens of settlements south of the river, and moving them to the coast.

Russia is currently shelling Kherson while thousands of people are trying to get out of the way of the coming flood. Quite a stroke of luck, that they were so quick to retarget and so quick to know where to hit.

Russia is also saying, Crimea’s only going to be temporarily affected by the flood because they’d planned ahead.

Russian Telegram channels can’t make their mind up. Some are delighted that this breach will wash away Ukrainian forces downriver and are cheering the dam collapse - they’re only too happy to claim the credit.

Others are blaming Ukraine but are cheering the smarts of Russia moving its people out of the path of the flood, and could care less about those who haven’t gotten out of the way.

Who was in control of the dam? I thought it was Russia. A bloody drone didn’t do THAT much damage. Heck, even a targeted missile would only have done it if there’d beem a heck of a fluke.

Russia had more to gain and less to lose; it had more rational motives; it had better means and opportunity; it got the excuses out early; it got its people out of the way first.

All VERY convenient for Russia.

Unlike some, I do not see the Ukrainian government the same as the Ukrainian people.

Nobody in the Ukrainian government is fighting or sacrificing for the nation. Those corrupt leaders are making out like bandits with the graft and sales of NATO arms.

The Ukrainian men fight because males are not allowed to leave the country.

Ukrainians are dying and suffering needlessly. This war was totally avoidable if Biden/NATO had used diplomacy instead of saber rattling. But now the left is making huge dollars off defense contracts and will make even more off reconstruction contracts.

In the end, Russia will control part of Ukraine, just like what could have been negotiated from the start and totally avoiding the mass loss of tens of thousands of good Ukrainian lives, property and families.

Not their government? There you go again. How does supporting the disenfranchisement of Ukrainians help American conservatives? It doesn’t, obviously.

Just last week Putin again personally denied the historical legitimacy of the Ukrainian state. No amount of diplomacy will change that position because Putin is an empire building Russian revanchist.

The globalists who happily partner with Putin’s fascist Russia care exactly as much about the Ukrainian nation as the US. That would be not at all.

Patriotic American conservatives have common cause with Ukrainians who simply do want their have their sons die in FSB torture chambers and children stolen by the Russian state. Conservatism without a moral core will not exist.

Strictly speaking they were on the record that they investigated if it was possible to damage the dam enough to frustrate Russian activity WITHOUT FLOODING TOWNS AND VILLAGES.

A well placed attack on the roadway could’ve done that without breaching the dam. Besides, that was over six months ago. If it had been this destructive we’d have seen the dam breach a lot sooner, and with deterioration on the exterior.

The explosion footage that I’ve seen suggests to me that this wasn’t a surface attack. I know that some reports say the HEP explosion was from inside the complex, not the outside.

Doesn’t prove who did it, but does undermine speculation that a HIMARS / drone did it.
