An act of Insanity as Zelenskyy orders the destruction of the Kakhovskaya Hydroelectric Dam

The breach could result in devastating flooding, potentially killing thousands of civilians as well as disrupting the cooling systems for the nearby Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.

The Kakhovskaya hydroelectric dam in Russia’s Kherson Region, located on the Dnepr River upstream from the city of Kherson, suffered significant damage on Tuesday morning, according to a local official and several videos shared on social media.

The upper part of the key infrastructure was “destroyed as a result of a strike,” the mayor of Novaya Kakhovka, Vladimir Leontyev, confirmed to RIA Novosti. While several of the dam’s floodgates were damaged and unleashed an uncontrolled stream of water, the underwater structure itself withstood the attack, the official claimed.

As a result of what Leontyev described as a major “terrorist act,” the water level downstream has risen by up to 2.5 meters, according to Leontyev, who added there was no need for evacuations thus far. He noted that the area has seen higher water levels during previous floods caused by heavy rainfall, but emphasized that local officials were focused on helping citizens as they prepare for a worst-case scenario.

“All services work in the city, all administration employees are in place. Electricity, gas, internet, and communications are available,” the mayor continued.

The dam was reportedly struck around 2am local time. A video captured from a drone has circulated on Telegram, purporting to show the aftermath of the attack, with streams of water seen flowing through the breach.

Moscow has repeatedly blamed Kiev for numerous attacks on the Kakhovskaya dam, warning that a breach could cause a disaster and result in the deaths of thousands of civilians. In turn, Ukraine claimed that Russia had been planning to blow up the dam itself in a false-flag operation aimed at framing Kiev for the flooding.

The persistent threat was cited as one of the main reasons for evacuating civilians from certain communities in the area, and an eventual pullout of Russian forces from the city of Kherson to the left bank of the Dnepr River.

Russian military and civilian officials, including acting Kherson Governor Vladimir Saldo, warned at the time that many areas in the region, including in Kherson city, could be flooded if the Kakhovskaya dam is destroyed.

###

Kiev indeed considered blowing up the dam to paralyze Moscow’s forces who were defending the city of Kherson – and even “conducted a test strike with a HIMARS launcher on one of the floodgates” – a former head of Ukraine’s Operational Command South, Major General Andrey Kovalchuk, admitted in an interview with the Washington Post in December.

Except the Russians did it.

The reference to Ukraine supposedly considering it when Russia was defending Kherson - except they didn’t and Ukraine captured Kherson so that logic no longer exists.

“Except the Russians did it.”

That statement makes about as much sense as the Russians blowing up their own pipeline. The dam also supplies water to Crimea.

Insane indeed. Desperate attempt to change the focus while the Uber-offensive sputters in its first wave. Media are already in a feeding frenzy like after the NordStream attacks.

OK, how? What weapons, what delivery, how many were used? If Ukraine doesn’t have it and can’t delivery it, they did not destroy the dam. This was far more than a single HIMARS attack.

The ZNPP is the key factor here. Zelvis thinks the potential for meltdown will force the UNSC to order the IAEA inspectors into the plant, while somehow blaming Russia and bringing down the wrath of worldwide environmentalists on them.

Maybe that’s his secret plan for instigating the new Russian revolution.

You know exactly nothing about that dam.

As with NordStream, the narrative will eventually change several times and perhaps evolve into something like the “six men in a boat did it” idiocy.

“ Except the Russians did it.…”
********************************

The Ukrainians hold the right bank (that’s the bank to the west of the river for you riparian challenged) and the Russians hold the left bank. The right bank in Kherson (held by the Ukrainians) is ALL HIGH GROUND and NOT SUBJECT TO FLOODING. The left bank of the river there is all HELD BY THE RUSSIANS and is ALL LOW GROUND and is BEING FLOODED. The Russians would not do this to themselves. Only the STUPID and GULLIBLE would believe otherwise…which are you?

I know. Asking the questions means the are asked. How they are either answered or not answered reflects on the sides of the conversation.

Ukraine does not have the weapons or ability to deliver them. Russia has the means to mine the dam and the motive because Russia acts this way.

You have no idea what you’re talking about. We’ll find out what happened, but not from all your breathless pronouncements.

So sick of the Russia shills telling everybody what has to be true and even what has to happen in the future.

Too soon to tell. Could have been StormShadows, lesser artillery shells delivering the coup de grace to structures previously weakened by shelling in the fall, local flash flooding, spy beavers strapped with explosives, etc.

Some of the above are less likely than others. 😛

The good news is that the flooding hasn’t reached catastrophic levels yet and that news outlets desperate for something to report may be exaggerating the scope of this incident. But it bears following closely.

Russia is not the only country, with heavily partisan supporters.

Ukraine has the entire US propaganda apparatus fighting for them.

I am not sure which side to believe.

And I am American.

IF true it must be an act of desperation on the part of Mr. Z. We shall see. This can not be hidden.
