US Women’s Soccer Team Trash Talks Club of Retirees, Ends Up Losing 12-0 (Video)

A group of young women who play or played professionally on the notoriously-woke U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team (USWNT) were full of braggadocio ahead of a match last week. That is, until they played a bunch of mostly retired men in their 40s from the U.K.

After the game, though, suddenly the women were not quite as arrogant about their prowess on the grass.

As it happens, the group of retired, older men from the U.K. totally destroyed the team of younger U.S. women with a 12 to 0 final at an independent soccer tournament in North Carolina last Thursday.

The Wrexham men’s team, made up of former and current players took on a team of U.S. women being coached by famed U.S. soccer player Mia Hamm.

The U.S. team was made up mostly of current USWNT players, including Heather O’Reilly and Cat Whitehill, according to The Mirror.

The U.S. women came on strong ahead of the game with O’Reilly boasting that the older men’s team was “about to go down.”

Some of those guys might have been retired but the left forward is 19.

That said, the guys took it easy on the women. It wasn't even close.

Ms O’Reilly is perhaps not worldly enough to know the double meaning of that phrase.
Maybe she can write the Vice President for greater clarity.

Well, at least this time the women’s team got stomped by a group of adult men instead of a bunch of 15-year-old boys, as they did a few years ago. I guess that’s sort of progress. Nice try girls. Learn anything?…no, of course you didn’t. Once the humiliation wears off they’ll probably be back with their “strong woman” nonsense.

If rabid feminists really believe that they’re no different from men, then I wish the NFL would let the “biggest and baddest” women out there suit up and go toe to toe with NFL linemen. They wouldn’t just need a cart, they’d need a stack of coffins.

I should have added that real women know that their power resides in their femininity, and not in fruitless attempts to act like men.

I watched the highlights. They only played 20 minute halves. They took it easy on the women.

Rappinoe and company were beaten by a boy’s high school team.

It wasn’t even close.

And her team was the best in the world in women’s soccer.

Ok, so they played a team of retired Pro Athletes, is that it? 12-0 LOL.

What was the score when they lost to the High School boys? Not boys champs or anything, just boys.

This isn't the USWNT.

I glanced at the story, which states The U.S. team was made up mostly of current USWNT players, including Heather O’Reilly and Cat Whitehill, according to The Mirror.

This is flatly untrue except for the detail that Heather O'Reilly (38 years old and long retired from the USWNT) and Cat Whitehill (41 years old and long retired) did take part. Lori Lindsey (43 years old and long retired) was mentioned in another story. These ladies were great players for a long time for the USWNT. They have mantelpieces full of World Cup and Olympic trophies. But for The Soccer Tournament, they were digging their old cleats out of their closets and coming out for a lark. For them, it was a reunion, and their names might have sold a few tickets to the nostalgia crowd.

As far as I can tell, the U.S. Women were the only women's team in the 32 team field. They didn't get out of group stage. I don't know if they won any games at all. The trash talking? I'm sure that was pure silliness. Heather O'Reilly knows better. She's a multiple Olympic and World Cup champion. She was channeling her inner 25 year old and pretending she was young again. "You're goin' DOWN." Yeah, right. She knows better. All in fun. And for the record, because I know what some of you are thinking, she's married with two kids, and apparently keeps fit by still playing low level soccer. One of the USWNT all-time greats with one of the all-time best nicknames (hey-oh).

So here's the thing. We have here a conservative website that publishes an article written by someone who knows absolutely nothing about soccer, let alone women's soccer. It is approved by editors who are equally ignorant, and who also don't know what they don't know. They just think trash talking the USWNT is boob bait for their audience, so they run it and make themselves look like fools. Why, people, why? If you want to take a cheap shot, at least know what you are talking about.

This team of women from the U.S. was an ad hoc team pulled together for a somewhat weird, ad hoc tournament -- The Soccer Tournament -- that had a million dollar, winner take all prize. My guess is that this was tv money. The tournament was apparently broadcast in the U.S. with some games on NBC Sports and some on YouTube. We live in the age of streaming. We have eleventy-seven bazillion channels and too many streamers with a 24/7/365 demand for content, and they will show just about anything.

The Wrexham team that played the ad hoc women's team from the U.S. represented a Welsh club -- Wikipedia says it's a fourth tier professional team in the English leagues -- that is owned by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenny of Hollywood fame, who are apparently soccer buffs. Wrexham apparently was involved in some Netflix show recently which gave it a bit of a following in the U.S. The Wrexham side was a mix of active, reserve, and guest players.

I didn't try to figure out what all the teams were. The Soccer Tournament sounds like a pure made for tv stunt event. How teams were selected, I have no idea. Nor do I know if there were any real qualifications. Per one of the stories I found, one of the teams held open tryouts. Another club, again a lower level side at the pro or maybe pro-am level, was toying with the owners suiting up to play, but that didn't happen. A couple of former U.S. Men's National Team players pulled together pickup teams. Etc., etc., etc. And then a group of U.S. women said, "What the heck, let's get up a team and go play with the boys. Bet we don't have to buy our own beer for the duration." I hope they brought their husbands along so they didn't revert entirely to their playing days habits.

Made for tv stuntcasting.

I actually don't object to this kind of freelance nonsense -- it was probably better than most of the stuff on tv, even if it was basically pickup soccer -- but if NBC is desperate to find more soccer to fill dead airtime, I would suggest that they pull together some challenge matches with top youth soccer teams from around the country. Those would at least be real teams playing real soccer, and state or regional bragging rights might pull more viewers than blast-from-the-past folks who retired before the last ice age.

But maybe not. People still buy tickets to see geriatric rock groups.

Oh, the tournament itself: 7x7 sides, 20 minute halves, no offsides, unlimited substitutions.

So fantastic to see leftist women be demolished by men. I hear the men let up on the gas and did not score much of the 2nd half.

I bet if you gather best 12 year old boys in the country, they'll probably beat the women as well. The boys will be much faster and stronger.

The highlights looked like the score would have been 30-0 if Wrexham were putting any serious effort into it. That one blond guy who kept scoring looks like a retired NFL lineman.

The team is all Lesbians.
They don’t give a damn about anything but soccer and sex.
Losing or winning is not important.

I would not make that statement if I did not know about women’s sports.

The Wrexham side was an ad hoc collection of active, retired and guest players pulled together for this one-off stunt tournament. The tournament appears to have been a made for tv event. There’s nothing necessarily wrong with that, but it was basically pickup soccer played under rec rules — 7v7 games, unlimited substitutions, no offsides, 20 minute halves — and shouldn’t be confused with a serious competition.

I have no idea who the Wrexham guys were, but from the articles I found, some of them were active players on a lower level Welsh professional team, some were retired players, and some were guest players, provenance unknown.

Apart from Mia Hamm, who coached the U.S. side, the only three names I recognized among the U.S. women were Lori Lindsay, Heather O’Reilly, and Cat Whitehill, all great players in their day but 43, 38 and 41 years old respectively and all long retired from the USWNT. I didn’t recognize any of the other names. This was a pickup team thrown together for a made for tv stunt event. As far as I could tell from glancing at a couple of articles, the U.S women were the only women’s team in the 32 team field. This was not a serious event, although someone (I expect NBC, which had the broadcast rights) attached a $1 million winner-take-all prize. TV nonsense.

I have no idea if the Wrexham guys pulled back in the second half. They probably did. Nobody was taking this seriously, and even in serious soccer games, teams pull back when a game is safely out of reach. Some of the Wrexham players were in their 40’s and retired as well. They probably needed to rest, but since there were unlimited substitutions, that wouldn’t have been a problem. The women were doing it for a lark. The linked article is simply incompetent.
