Former Vice President Mike Pence reiterated his call on Republicans to resist what he called the “siren song of populism” during the 2024 presidential race, signaling that it will be his theme throughout his rumored run.
Pence issued his plea when speaking during Republican Sen. Joni Ernst’s annual “Roast and Ride” fundraiser in Des Moines, Iowa.
“I believe we have to resist the politics of personality and the siren song of populism unmoored to timeless conservative principles, and we need to stand firm on the conservative agenda of life and liberty and a commitment to freedom that has always led us to victory,” Pence told the crowd at the Iowa State Fairgrounds.
Pence previously issued warnings about populism, such as in 2022 when he said that conservatives should not be “led astray by unprincipled populism.”
“Our movement cannot forsake the foundational commitment that we have to security, to limited government, to liberty, and to life. But nor can we allow our movement to be led astray by the siren song of unprincipled populism that’s unmoored from our oldest traditions and most cherished values,” he said.
“There’s a healthy debate going on within our movement today,” he added. “Some in our movement long for a simple return to traditional conservative agenda of the Reagan era. Others say our movement should be swept along by a new and energetic sense of populism.”

Geez… why did Trump ever pick this guy?? 🙄
There’s some wisdom there — in a participatory system, do not speak to those you would lead on topics that they care about in words that they understand, with solutions that seem to be fair an workable — we should be grateful that these people bring their wisdom to us and even deign to lovingly rub our noses in it. Maybe some day, we can be as wise as them...
Or at least stop puking on the aroma of their “wisdom”.
>>>>he would be good at holding weekend retreats for couples working on relationships<<<<
Where the guy is the source of the ‘trouble’ in the marriage because he isn’t Jesus-ing right. Not the unemployed, morbidly obese wife that sleeps 14 hours a day and puts out when forced to a couple of times a month.
Happy wife, crappy life
Historically, the word Populist was applied to big spending Democrat politicians from states in the Deep South.
Re: "As far as immigration goes...the whole Congress both led by two lying Catholics just like the godfather Joey are spearheading this invasion...Have you never read Peter?"
Sorry - I have no idea what that statement means. I was referring to the Trump immigration policy from 2017-2021.
There’s a healthy debate going on within our movement today,” he added. “Some in our movement long for a simple return to traditional conservative agenda of the Reagan era. Others say our movement should be swept along by a new and energetic sense of populism.”
what a load of bullsh##, a healthy debate
Mike Pence and the siren song of silence.
i doubt pence can win even a single primary.
much like the meatball who don’t know how to pronounce his own name.
.
Go away Mike
a little populism is a good thing.
a little libertarianism is a good thing.
a little isolationism is a good thing.
just not too much
.
Christie should run,,,,,not for president, he should just run
Might trigger an earthquake, we can’t take the risk.
So tired of hearing about Reagan conservatism! I was a little kid when he was president. I was in awe of him. He was a wonderful President. The Reagan agenda was popular in 1987 because it fit that time. It’s 2023 now! Reaganism in retrospect was too corporatist & business oriented. Populism entered the conservative movement to address the loss of American jobs, the decline of the middle class & most of all the purposefully lax immigration policy that favors third world immigrants, open borders the destruction of American society. We haven’t stopped being constitutional conservatives, religious traditionalists & favored of limited government. Our newfound populist conservatism has come about because of loyalty to our countrymen and favoring a favortism that should be shown to our fellow American workers. We also desire an immigration policy & system that protects and defends our historic culture, the English language & shared traditions. Gone are the days when conservatives turned out in droves to vote for the guy whose main goal was to pad big businesses bank accounts with low wage foreign workers & tax schemes. That was never true conservatism Mike 🤔🤨🙄
Now that Mike Pence has entered the race, let me tell y’all some inside info:
In the days leading up to J6, I was informed by trusted sources that Pence wasn’t going to contest the rigged electoral college results.
I couldn’t believe it. How could he backstab 74 million people…— DC_Draino (@DC_Draino) June 5, 2023
Your ears are stuffed with wax,
but tell us, bind yourselves to masts.
Jackass. Populism is the idea that the population should get what they want within the rules of a Republic.
The alternative to populism is oligarchy. And that is somehow supposed to be good for us.
This from the Barney Fife candidate.
Perfectly said.
Great summary.
Yeah not much of a conservative...or good Christian for that matter. The guy is bottom of the barrel.
Pence and the govts way of saying don’t go against what we want. If you do we ll label you a populist, and that’s supposed to mean something bad. This govt is so lost. We need a total redo on the US govt.A total remake of the laws that govern the govt. The constitution is gone, they haven’t lived by it on forever. We need something else with more teeth, to say what govt can and cannot do. Start with no allowance for a govt not limited in its ability to tax.
