Bryan Griffin, a spokesman for DeSantis, told CNN he initially followed guidance from Fauci but changed course and didn’t look back.
“Like most Americans, the governor initially assumed medical officials were going to serve the interests of the people and keep politics out of their decision making. When it became clear that this wasn’t the case, the governor charted his own course and never looked back,” Griffin told CNN in an email. “Governor DeSantis would’ve fired Anthony Fauci.”

Unfortunately, most people believed Fauci was working in the interest of America’s health. I can’t fault DeSantis on this one.
If you are going to make an accusation, at least ping the dude.
DeSantis has no principles except promoting globalism. On any other issue, he will say whatever he thinks is necessary to get support.
In the very remote possibility he got the Republican nomination, he would immediately move left and start trying to get independents and moderates. But he would not modify his foreign policy and tax priorities. Those are fixed.
Trump was still praising him in September.

Just about every government leader was doing so. Since information about COVID risks was very one sided it made Fauci look like a genius who would save us all. Acting on evidence available at the time to reach a conclusion is not a big of a fault as you want people to believe.
That was VERY early on, Fauci had not shown his colors yet. No one could be faulted for backing the medical leaders then.

I know my best friend talking to me down there said her son was going to start high school normally - and they do school almost year-round. This was well back in August.
All the facts not having been exposed in early 2020, it may have appeared that he was doing a good job rather than a politically motivated fraud. So a pass on the point seems appropriate. Failing to speak out later is another matter. When did he first call out Fauci for his lies?
