It was the fall of 2022. This was the first of many on-the-record interviews that Licht had agreed to give me, and I wanted to know how CNN’s new leader planned to deal with another Donald Trump candidacy. Until recently Licht had been producing a successful late-night comedy show. Now, just a few months into his job running one of the world’s preeminent news organizations, he claimed to have a “simple” answer to the question that might very well come to define his legacy.
“The media has absolutely, I believe, learned its lesson,” Licht said.
Sensing my surprise, he grinned.
“I really do,” Licht said. “I think they know that he’s playing them—at least, the people in my organization. We’ve had discussions about this. We know that we’re getting played, so we’re gonna resist it.”

Contained in this article is insight into the thinking of what used to be the largest propaganda arm of the Democrat Party, CNN. Enjoy!
Liars then, liars now.
Toobin then, Toobin now ...
any discussion about actual objective journalism?
yeah who am i kidding
Long article of not much
Seems appropriate to be heading CNN
If I was him, I'd fire every last one of them and start all over like it's 1980!
Even Democrats got sick of CNN’s non-stop Trump-bashing.
One trick pony. And why not it leftist formula that works again and again.
Demonize republicans while praising democrats.
Lots of biased whining.
I don’t watch every Trump rally. I don’t need to. Trump uses the same basic stump speech at his rallies. The speech does differ slightly over the campaign season, so I will tune in several times over the campaign season or when there has been a significant news item that may prompt a change in Trump’s speech. When I do tune in, I watch RSBN using Rumble.
Why RSBN? They keep their traps shut and don’t comment during the speech. They also interview the crowd prior to rally speeches and they will show the entire crowd. This really should not be impressive. It should be the norm. I’m not particularly fond of their reporters as they come off as young and naive. Personally, I think they would do a better job interviewing people if they just asked the question, “what do you think?”, and then shut up.
I am not a fan of debates or town halls because they are “moderated”. I don’t like that term. Moderators do more that moderate and I really don’t give a damn about their questions, comments and fact checking. They make it about themselves. This isn’t a new thing, it’s been going on for decades. It has only grown worse.
The perfect debate to me would be similar to the Lincoln-Douglas debates. A real moderator would simply explain the rules and keep time. If you are unfamiliar with the Lincoln-Douglas debates format, here it is: There were seven debates. Each debate had an hour-long opening statement by one candidate, an hour and a half-long response by the other candidate and a half-hour rebuttal by the first candidate. And then roles were reversed. If you have the attention span to watch two football games back-to-back, then it’s really no problem length-wise.
The media isn’t given the opportunity to make it about themselves. That’s near perfection. Of course the media will comment afterwards and have their leftist spin, but given today’s technology the entire debate can be posted on the internet and people can refer to the real thing.
If the writer doesn’t understand the problem, my Tagline explains it with every post.
Licht’s big mistake at CNN is that he hasn’t fired enough people. He needs to replace all of the left wing producers and on air anchors. Licht needs to cancel CNN’s membership in the Soros paid propaganda machine.
Let’s keep destroying these leftist companies and most important, hurt the leftist employees.
Yet they do not bother to point out ONE.
Huh? I thought the article was about CNN.
“Licht said Trump had done “really bad sh!t” as president that reporters sometimes missed because they were obsessing over more sensational stories. Trump had goaded the media with “outrage porn,” provoking journalists to respond with such indignation, so often, that audiences began to tune out. “When everything is an 11” on a scale of 10, Licht said, “it means that when there’s something really awful happening, we’re kind of numb to it. That was a strategy. And I felt like the media was falling for that strategy.”
Of course, he never gets around to telling us what that bad sh!t was, just assumes that we all know that everything Trump did was bad-—according to them. It was the so-called “journalists” themselves who walked into every press encounter looking for a fight, something they NEVER did with either 0bama or Biden. The ONLY thing that Trump did to provoke them is to beat the person they wanted as president, which was, of course, Hillary Clinton.
wow! thousands of words and not a single word about maybe going back to reporting actual news like CNN used to do way back during the old days ...
