Two people have been charged after four churches in Laurens County, South Carolina were broken into and vandalized over the weekend.
Sierra Lynn Smith and Jesse James Hawkins are charged with three counts of second-degree burglary, four counts of malicious injury to place of worship, larceny and arson.
The Laurens County Sheriff's Office said the two vandalized and destroyed property, broke windows, stole items and/or damaged doors at the following churches the following churches: Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, New Prospect Baptist Church, Reedy Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church, and Ceder Grove Baptist Church.
Smith and Hawkins appeared in court Monday.
There they faced a room filled with members of three of the four churches they are charged with burglarizing.
"This act of evil has been devastating to our church, our families, and our community," Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church program director Melissa Crenshaw said.
"We are praying for them because their judgment here is nothing compared to what their judgment will be before god," Crenshaw said.
However, one thing really upset leaders at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.
"They left an upside-down cross in the office for us to find," Crenshaw said.
Smith and Hawkins were given a $77,125 bond.
The two expressed remorse for their actions.
"I wish I could go back and repair everything that they've done," Hawkins said.
"If I could take it back, I would. I wasn't in the right mindset. I barely even remember half of the things that happened that night," Smith said.
However, for some, it wasn't good enough.
"You've hit four churches. If you hit just one church and you're showing remorse, you can see remorse in that. They hit four churches and possibly more, so no. They're not sorry for what they did. They're sorry they're sitting behind bars," Crenshaw said.
"Somewhere along the line, this tragedy will turn into a blessing. If nothing else, it helps bring us closer together as fellow churches," Trustee of Reedy Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church Hoyt Dorn said.
Sheriff Don Reynolds also spoke about the arrests.
“We are very thankful to have these twisted individuals charged in a timely manner with the terrible crimes committed," Reynolds said. They’ve already stood before one judge. The fact is, they will stand before the ultimate Judge one day. I surely commend the work of the Deputies involved in these arrests.”

Over the past few years abortion places with any disrespect shown (spray paint, phone threats that didn’t materialize....) led to immediate investigations, sending of agents and lavish TV news coverage.

The incident followed acts of vandalism against three other pro-life clinics in St. Paul, Minneapolis and Northfield in recent weeks. The Northfield Women’s Clinic, about 40 miles south of the Twin Cities, was vandalized last week with its front window smashed and the words, “Fake Clinic Not Safe,” spray-painted on the building.
And on and on.
Federal DOJ was silent and passive for a long time before doing any investigation. One fire bombing missed killing workers who happened to not be present at another center. Seems to me religious people’s “civil rights” were endangered by that.
Religious people don’t have civil rights.
What’s the big deal? It’s not as if they laid a scratch over a BLM symbol on a roadway.
Who in Hades names their kid “Jesse James?”
