May 30 (UPI) -- A beluga whale, believed to have been trained for surveillance by the Russian military, has been spotted off the coast of Sweden, according to advocates who track the whale.
When Hvaldimir was first observed by Norwegian fisherman in 2019, he was wearing a harness, which was removed from his body. The harness reportedly had markings reading "Equipment of St. Petersburg."

Maybe that was how Russia did it?
First, did the whale have a bumper sticker on it saying “Nordstream or Bust”? If so, we’ve FINALLY solved that mystery.
“Fa love Pa.”
A truly awesome movie IMHO
Big deal. This particular story goes back to 2019, but the U.S. Navy has been using trained dolphins and sea lions since the 1960s.
So you believe the beluga is a Russian spy?
He was flying the MiG-31 Firefox and must think in Russian?
Did I say that?
White beluga lives matter
Hard to go wrong with the Mike Nichols/ Buck Henry movies.
Russian “spy whale”?
Is this like those Jewish Sharks that were eating tourists diving off of the Egyptian coast a few years ago?
Aren’t Belugas snow white in color?
They were obviously Jewish Sharks because they were wearing Yamulkes!
I think those sharks followed the slave route ships, looking for free meals.
In fairness, the US Navy (and I believe at least one other military) have worked with dolphins in somewhat similar roles (though actual intelligence gathering has never been acknowledged). I absolutely wouldn’t put it past the Russian Military to find ways to use cetaceans for such missions.
Probably not a good idea to have your spy beluga wear a collar that says, “Made in St Petersburg”
"ST. PETERSBURG?!?!?!"
"Get a Rope!"
HA!
