Trump outsmarts them as his supporters do by not trying to defend being imperfect

It’s how the left maintains power. They know conservatives aim for goodness.

“It’s how the left maintains power. They know conservatives aim for goodness.”

And the left holds republicans to standards they do not even hold for members of their own party. If one of their party is accused of something, they circle the wagons and declare it a personal issue, or a simple mistake worthy of forgiveness. Then, it’s “let’s move on”.

If it is a republican accused it immediately becomes a “constitutional crisis” if the person is not immediately removed from office. They force other republicans to agree by having the media stick a microphone in their face and demand they condemn the person or suffer some horrible fate.

Lots of politicians have alleged affairs. Is that impeachable?

If you bothered to read the articles of impeachment, you’d see that none of them are for having an affair.

I actually read the charges. Primarily what he is being impeached for includes:

- Interfering in a lawsuit on behalf of a friend and donor;
- Illegally firing whistleblowers;
- Providing favor to a friend and donor in return for help getting his girlfriend a job and some renovation work on his house;
- Interfering in state and federal investigations, including securities fraud and corruption investigations into Paxton himself;
- Issuing legal opinions on civil cases in which the state was not involved to benefit a friend and donor.

Now these are the charges, they have not yet been proven. But that is what the Senate trial is for. IF true, then Paxton should be removed from office, regardless of the good you and I think he has done while serving as AG. But keep in mind that 8 senior members of his staff went to the FBI to report allegations of corruption and bribery. And 60 out of 85 GOP member of the Texas House (over 70%) voted to impeach. That doesn’t mean he is guilty, but there was enough evidence presented to persuade a supermajority of his own party.

I’ll wait until the actual evidence is available before making a judgment. I’ve seen too many people whom I held in high regard and whom I felt did great things make stupid mistakes that ruined their careers and lives. Call it arrogance or hubris, but they begin to think their position or popularity or even the good that they have accomplished makes them immune to the consequences everyone else must face. Eventually, it brings them down.

“No one knows what the Paxton thing is about. Now they’re talking about an affair.”

The affair is an accusation based on state house gossip, rumor and innuendo. There is no there there, no affair, no whistleblowers, and no state funded payout to these alleged whistleblowers.

Every accusation, each indictment and every rumor is made of whole cloth, and Attorney General Paxton will be more than happy to explain it all during the senate trial.

“What do ya think Mrs. Paxton will do?
1. Vote to confirm impeachment on that two timing SOB?

2. Vote in favor of her dear loving innocent husband?

3. Recuse/abstain?”

I don’t know anything about Mrs. Paxton personally, but....IF the affair allegation is true...

she should choose #2 in public...and in private she should go all “Bobbitt” on his cheating azz....lol. (I jest with all seriousness)

What pre-term behavior did they impeach for? I read the charges, and except for the possibility of the securities fraud issue, everything else seems directly related to his term as AG.

“ Sen. Paxton will be objective in her support of her husband and vote against the baseless impeachment of the attorney general.”

Republicans do the Democrats dirty work and don’t protect their own. Then we whine that all we have left are Rino’s and the Democrats laugh. They always protect theirs.

And this applies to Democrats?

Paxton was not impeached for having an affair. One of the impeachment charges is that he did a favor for a donor so that the donor would get his girlfriend a job that was closer to him, so they could see each other more often. Doing any kind of official act in return for something of value is considered bribery.

Had Hillary Clinton been a United States senator at the time of Bill Clinton’s impeachment trial, no one would be suggesting that she recuse herself.

Sen. Paxton has every right under her duties and responsibilities to support her husband and vote against impeachment.

I can’t think of a Democrat I hold in high regard or whom I believe has done great things, so I can’t speak to that.

I got the impression that his wife was not supporting this impeachment, but that his former staffers/whistleblowers were.
